Walking around the Sutro Baths at Lands End is one of the nicest things to do in the city. I love the history here: Although there are only ruins left, it used to be a beautiful public saltwater-pool facility. From the baths you can roam the paths of Lands End, a breathtaking stretch of coast on the Pacific Ocean side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Wear layers—the weather out here can easily change from cold fog and drizzle to sunshine—or vice versa!

An easy to get to beach landmark that’s both unique and beautiful (probably chilly)

Built in 1896, this used to be a public saltwater swimming pool complex. The facility burned down in 1966 and the ruins are still there near the Cliff House. It's worth exploring.

Now in ruins, this circa 1896, expansive public bathhouse once held seven saltwater swimming pools.
