An historic old town with a part-ruined old 'cathedral' church in grounds dominated by enormously tall trees.

Dunkeld Cathedral is a Church of Scotland place of worship which stands on the north bank of the River Tay in Dunkeld, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Built in square-stone style of predominantly grey sandstone, the cathedral proper was begun in 1260 and completed in 1501. It stands on the site of the former Culdee Monastery of Dunkeld, stones from which can be seen as an irregular reddish streak in the eastern gable.

Dunkeld cathedral is situated in beautiful grounds with mature larch and yew trees. The original cathedral was founded in 1260 and was a significant religious site in Scotland with relics of Saint Columba, including his bones, said to be kept here until the Reformation. Out-with the cathedral grounds there is a nice arboretum walk along the river towards Dunkeld House Hotel where you can finish with a gin and tonic. Inside the cathedral is a small exhibition covering the religious history of the local area. Drive time 10mins
