These ruins of an ante-bellum sugar mill were part of a 5,000 acre plantation hacked out of the hammock along the Homosassa River by roughly a thousand slaves in 1851. The plantation helped provide sugar for Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War.

Great place to stop and see an old sugar mill, this is on the way to the Homoassa River.

Located a quick 25 miles north of Weeki Wachee is the charming fishing village of Homosassa, and within the town is the historic Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins State Park. Established in 1851 by David Levy, this 5,000 acre sugar cane plantation is now a state park. The ruins of the sugar mill are interesting to explore, and the park offers some great hiking and bird watching.
