Devils Backbone Brewing Company
If you walk the Chessie Trail, stop and grab a beer and some food on your way back north.
Devil's Backbone is a bit further than Blue Mountain Brewery, but this place it a serious beer connoisseur's Mecca. It's amazingly huge with everything from campgrounds to high-end lodging at nearby Wintergreen. Most definitely worth a day even if beer's not your thing.
Excellent beers, a huge tasting room, and good pub food make it a great place to bring or meet up with a group.
Great beer. Tasting room, bar, small cafe, and tours of the brewery. Must go if you love beer.
“See the chapel that Robert E. Lee used to worship in. He and members of his family are buried there as well as his horse!”
“An institution with W&L alumni and students. Bar and restraurant, music, active scene.”
“Southern fare in intimate, historic digs. In November 2003, the Bistro on Main opened its doors with an expanded menu that retained the appeal of the Black Dog Café but also added many upscale dishes. Offering a different menu for brunch, lunch, and dinner the Bistro also offers daily special soups, quiches, and entrees. The intimate, casual atmosphere and affordable menu has made the Bistro on Main a favorite among visiting students and their parents as well as locals and tourists alike. ”
“Always enjoyable, excellent choice for dinner. Chef specials are well thought out, the standard menu is delicious.”
