Montana is chock full of historic ghost town. Our State's nickname is the "Treasure State", and these towns sprung up in the mid 19th century, seemingly overnight, and then vanished just as quick, as fortunes were made. Some of our favorites include Bannack, Elkhorn, Independence, Coolidge and Dewey, and Castle Town. Make sure to observe "private property" signs when visiting any of these locations.
