The Amtrak Cascades Line collects here with multiple trips daily south to Salem and Eugene, and even more trips north to Seattle and Vancouver BC. Great views from the train to the west as the train route hugs the Puget Sound from Olympia to Seattle. The trains include a bar and bistro cart so you can have that beer or clam chowder as you make your way.

Bus and train stop. Not in the best neighborhood. I recommend taking a Lyft or taxi if you come in at night.

Amtrak is the nation’s intercity passenger rail operator, with 21,000 route miles in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian provinces. Portland is connected to three Amtrak rail lines. The Amtrak Cascades line runs from Vancouver, B.C., through Seattle and Portland to Eugene, Ore. The Coast Starlight line runs from Seattle through Portland to Los Angeles. The Empire Builder line runs from Portland/Seattle to Chicago. Amtrak trains arrive in and depart from the iconic Union Station in downtown Portland, and there are also stations in Vancouver and Oregon City.
