BEAUTIFUL waterfall. About 5 miles out and back. Easy hike. Very crowded but if you can brave the crowds, the views are worthwhile.

Just a 2.5 mile walk from the monument Ranger Station, Rainbow Falls is the highest waterfall on the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin river. Plunging 101-feet down, the falls are aptly named for the many rainbows that appear in its mist on sunny summer days. Visitors interested in a moderate day-hike can make a loop, embarking from the Ranger Station's trailhead to the falls and returning via Shuttle Bus Stop 9 (Rainbow Falls Trailhead) or Shuttle Bus Stop 10 (Reds Meadow Resort). The bus can return hikers to the monument's ranger station, other bus stops in the Reds Meadow Valley, or the Adventure Center. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen for every member in your hiking group as the walk to the Rainbow Falls is very hot, dry, and has little shade

Spectacular Rainbow Falls is moderate 1.5 mile R/T hike from Reds Meadow or a moderate 2.5 mile one-way hike from Devil's Postpile. The shuttle picks up/drops off from both Devil's Postpile and Red's Meadow every 20 mins. If you like to hike, get dropped off at Devil's Postpile, hike to Rainbow Falls and then hike back to Red's Meadow and catch he shuttle back (4 miles total). On a hot day, enjoy and ice cream cone from the Red's Meadow General Store. The mandatory shuttle bus is required during the busy summer months. Shuttles depart from the The Village or from the Adventure Center at Main Lodge from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. Adults $7, Children 3-15 $4. Dogs must be leashed and muzzled
