The cottage has been renovated to the highest standards whilst still retaining plenty of character. Ideally located for those seeking a luxurious retreat in the countryside with wonderful walks on the door step and the convenience of a pub and well-stocked village shop close by. Plenty of wonderful places to visit in the area and a restful stop gap if walking the Cotswold Way. Fantastic hilly cycling area. Conveniently located for travelling to either Cheltenham, Bristol or Bath
Renovated with much love and care over the last year, I have tried to keep the property simple and stylish but most of all comfortable. The wood burner provides a warming focal point and logs are provided for your first night's stay. Additional logs can be purchased thereafter either from the local shop or directly from me. Accommodation is best-suited up to four but can accommodate up to 6 if you don't mind a squeeze. PLEASE NOTE there is an additional charge per guest per night if more than two guests are staying - when booking, altering the number of guests shows you the exact charge. Netflix for those with accounts. Separate downstairs loo in addition to the large bathroom. Comfy towels and slippers provided for use during your stay. The kitchen is also stocked with coffee, tea, herbal teas, an array of spices and seasoning and I always leave fresh milk for my guests (let me know if you prefer soya/skimmed/etc). All the bedrooms have their own tea/coffee-making facilities.
As well as some wonderful walks on the doorstep, the property is well-situated if visiting the local tourist areas of Nailsworth, Tetbury and Westonbirt or if walking the Cotswold Way. Cheltenham is approximately 40 minutes drive away - perfect for attending the races or any of the festivals whilst Bath and Bristol are also about 40 minutes away. It is also about a ten-minute drive from the wedding and party venue, Kingscote Barn

Peter's Nest is a favourite cottage for honeymooners and couples--especially walkers and those with dogs! This Cotswold stone cottage tucked away by woods is the perfect 'love nest' for two, Virgilian in bucolic peace and sweet sylvan scenery. Downstairs the house has an modern, open-plan kitchen and living room with a wood-burning stove in one corner and a small bathroom. Upstairs is a cosy bedroom with a low ceiling, a perfect retreat from the world.
In a clearing below Peter's Nest Wood known mysteriously as 'Hell's Throat', hard by a woodland spring is the original tiny cottage of Woodwells farmstead, marked on an 1847 map. INTERIOR Downstairs we enter through the kitchen, which leads into the living room with comfortable dining and sitting areas, and a cosy wood-burning stove. The bathroom is adjacent. As this is a small cottage the ceiling height is low in the bathroom! The cottage is heated by storage heaters. A narrow staircase lead upstairs to the small double attic bedroom (with very low, sloping ceilings under the eaves) with queen-sized bed, enjoying views to the west down the Owlpen valley. Hanging space for clothes is provided under the eaves, and a small dressing table. Peters Nest is situated in the east of the valley in the heart of the woods, making it a perfect location for walkers looking to explore the valley, and is adjacent to Woodwells cottage. There is ample parking and a small garden adjoining the garden of Woodwells cottage. There is also a large wilderness woodland dell to the east of the cottage. A small wrought iron table provides the opportunity to enjoy a sunset aperitif or breakfast coffee. Or watch the wild life and sociable pheasants. Key Features •Favourite with honeymooners •Nestled in the heart of the woods •Perfect location for walkers •Wood-burning stove •Dog friendly •Sleeps 2
The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills, limestone villages and scenic attractions. The magical deep wooded valleys here form its most spectacular scenery. Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses, castles and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the privacy of the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and utter seclusion. The Owlpen valley has long been recognised as one of the most romantic places in England and provides guests with an exclusive and relaxing hideaway, surrounded by private woods and hills and many miles of walks--from a gentle stroll round the estate trails to a 20 mile trek along the Cotswold Way. This is Laure Lee country, situated in the Royal Triangle in the heart of the Cotswolds hills. The historic cities of Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester are all within an easy drive, as are the cultural and scenic attractions of Oxford, Blenheim and Stratford Upon Avon, which are popular day excursions. An ideal base for the Horse Trials at Badminton and Gatcombe Park and racing at Cheltenham. Westonbirt Arboretum and the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge are nearby. Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion are three miles away, as well as many historic houses and gardens, including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House, Sudeley Castle, and Highgrove—if you can get in. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will need to return many times to see and explore it all.

A small but cosy listed building set in the ancient grounds of Owlpen Manor, one of the Cotswolds' most famous and romantic manor houses. Downstairs a dining room with a flagstone floor has views over the manor gardens. New bathroom with bath and shower. A narrow, steep and winding spiral stair leads to the first floor with a cosy living room and double bedroom. At the top of the house is a twin room with low ceilings. Pull back a curtain to reveal a queen-sized bed in cosy bedroom.
A small Grade 2 listed Stuart garden house of 1620 on a private estate in the heart of the Cotswolds. Sleeps 2 to 6 on three floors. Loggia on the ground floor has views over the manor house gardens. This is the only grade 1 listed building available to rent in the Cotswolds, and one of the only ones in the country! The Court House with its romantic period charm is a favourite with honeymooners and history buffs. The front door opens directly into an attractive dining room with a Welsh dresser, views over the manor gardens and a 17th century flagstone floor. The glass doors, divided by a simple Tuscan column, here frame the view of the east wing of the manor house and its yew trees immortalized by the etching of the celebrated Cotswold artist F.L. Griggs. The loggia opens directly into a galley kitchen. The bathroom lies beside it, with a bath and over-bath power shower. A very narrow spiral staircase(!) leads up to a beautiful sitting room in the old Justice Room on the first floor, with vintage horsehair sofa and original oak floorboards. The small main bedroom with double bed and handbasin are on this level. The stairs wind up again to two cosy children's bedrooms on the second, attic floor -- with low ceilings to suit the size of people in 17th century Stuart England. The first, with twin single children's beds nestled under the sloping eaves, leads through the trusses to the larger one, curtained off, with a small 4ft double bed. The oval bulls-eye windows enjoy delightful views over the Owlpen valley and to Uley, whose church spire can just be seen among the trees below the bare summit of the hill fort at Uley Bury to the west. The Court House has its private entrance from the lane below, with sun terrace and small garden to the west. There is a baroque sundial on the wall which still counts the hours, and a small table for enjoying a sunset aperitif or breakfast coffee and with views beyond the lane over the farm pastures. A path leads up from the cottage to the richly textured Victorian Church, which stands above the manor house. Key Features Romantic Grade I listed Stuart cottage Quirky charm with 'doll's house' interior Delightful views on all sides Private garden Sleeps 4+ No dogs, thank you.

The Grist Mill is an early 18th-century watermill which sleeps up to 8 in four double bedrooms. This listed Grade 2 landmark building has been restored as a gem of a holiday home, with contemporary comfort and style, surmounted by lantern and cupola. Enjoy open plan living in traditional style on the ground floor, and as you head up through the house you'll find cosy bedrooms and old machinery still in place, a relic of times past. Wooden beams, comfortable beds and new bathrooms.
The ground floor has an entrance hall leading to a large open-plan kitchen-cum-dining/ living room, with two sofas, arm chairs and a snug wood-burning stove in addition to the central heating. The kitchen is in fitted pine, with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and an antique pine table set with ash chairs designed by Ernest Gimson. Wooden stairs lead to the first floor (stone floor of the mill), which sleeps four. The miller's bedroom has a rare and opulent early eighteenth-century oak four-poster king-sized bed. The second bedroom has twin beds. Both bedrooms have beautiful views over the mill pond. There is a small bathroom with bath and over-bath showerhead. The ample landing preserves a number of original mill features and the original loading-door opens to the west. The second floor (granary floor) acts as a hide for the bird life on the mill pond, with early 19th-century bolting machinery carefully preserved. Original elm stairs (steep and unsuitable for young children or the elderly); a door keeps the stairs closed off from children. Here is a large double bedroom with king-sized bed and an open children's room, with two single beds. A second bathroom makes this four-bedroomed cottage comfortable for eight guests. Above this floor is a gantry cat-walk. A sack-hoist hangs in the cupola, whence light filters down through successive levels of glazed floor lights set in the traps.

An traditional Cotswold house on the edge of ancient woodland, with views across the stunning Owlpen valley. Newly refurbished in January 2017, this home offers a chance to escape from the busy pace of life in the middle of nowhere. Farmhouse kitchen with dining table on the ground floor, along with a dining room with open fire & living room with country views. One twin room with adjoining bathroom on the ground floor and two further double bedrooms, plus family bathroom upstairs.
The house is especially cosy - with paintings and antique furniture. It is set in a large walled garden, with a private terrace for al fresco dining. There are marvellous views over the Owlpen valley to the west, and the noise of owls hooting at night are replaced by songbirds in the daytime. Woodwells is set on the Owlpen Manor estate, with its 900 year-history and romance, in the most picturesque part of the Cotswolds. 2 hours west of London. Miles of private walks. The estate office deals with your wants and queries, bookings in the Cyder House Restaurant on the estate (prebooked only), servicing requirements and sightseeing suggestions. Friendly staff. The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills and villages, and this is the most spectacular part of it. Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and history. 2 hours from Heathrow Airport, 1 hour from Bristol. Stroud and Kemble stations. Suited for guests with limited mobility, with easy walking access and only a couple of small steps to access the property.
Woodwells is nestled next to ancient woodland in a deep Cotswold valley. If you like hooting owls chattering pheasants, and total tranquility, then this is the place for you.

Lavender Cottage is tucked away along a private path in the heart of the glorious village of Uley, just off the Cotswold Way. It’s a small cottage, ideal for couples, walkers, wedding guests, cyclists and anyone exploring this peaceful and beautiful part of Gloucestershire. Lavender Cottage is cosy and comfortable, with one double bedroom, perfect if you are seeking a Cotswold getaway. Dating from 1750, it has a quirky cottage charm, coupled with everything you will need for a relaxing stay.
One bedroom cottage with separate landing room equipped with books and games makes a great place to relax. The lounge has a feature fireplace and log burner. A table and chairs are located by the window so a great place to watch any birds appearing in the hedgerow. The cottage is self catering and breakfast is not provided. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, single oven, microwave, fridge with small freezer box and plenty of storage space. The shower room is accessed from the kitchen and although compact has a generously sized shower. The toilet room is accessed off the porch. Outside there is a patio area with table and chairs and a small lockable sentry box shed for your use to store any wet or muddy walking gear.
Uley has a lovely local pub, and a thriving Arts Centre, both less than 5 minutes walk from the cottage. The village green makes for an easy stroll, with idyllic views in all directions of the surrounding hills. The village store provides most of your immediate needs, and an opportunity to chat with the locals. Dursley is just 10 minutes drive if you need supermarket shopping. Nailsworth, Stroud, Tetbury, Badminton and Bath are also an easy drive if you are exploring the area. Fabulous walks right from Lavender Cottage's front door mean you can leave your car, and enjoy gorgeous, and really rather breathtaking, Cotswold countryside.

Minchinhampton is a very attractive, thriving hilltop town, situated on a tongue of high land between the Golden Valley and the Nailsworth Valley, 1.5 miles north east of Nailsworth. The town also sits on the eastern fringes of Minchinhampton Common, high above the valleys that were once prosperous with the production of cloth. The centre of Minchinhampton is a picture-postcard image of what people expect of a small Cotswold town, with a selection of nice shops and places to eat. The town is centred on its High Street and old Market Square, the main feature of which is the late 17th century Market House, supported on stone columns. The interesting Holy Trinity Church dates from the 12th century and has a truncated spire looking over the Market Square. The church was given to Caen's Abbaye aux Dames by William the Conqueror and then in 1415 passed to Syon Abbey, in whose hands it remained until the Dissolution. Minchinhampton Common is a large area of open grassland with spectacular views over the Stroud and Nailsworth valleys. The area is owned by National Trust and is an important archaeological landscape, with prehistoric field systems, burial mounds and the remains of a defensive earthwork, known as The Bulwarks. In the summer the Commons are grazed by local commoners' cattle. The area covers 635 acres and is renowned for its colourful array of wild flowers and butterflies. Food & Drink For a small market town, Minchinhampton is fortunate to be blessed with a number of good places to eat and drink: The Crown Inn (https://www.thecrown-minchinhampton.com/): Roaring fires, a restaurant serving up locally inspired flavours, and a cellar stocked full of craft ales, fine wines, and fizz - when it comes to Cotswold country pubs, The Crown Inn is the perfect place to meet, eat, and make great memories. The Ragged Cot (www.theraggedcot.co.uk): Perched high on the Cotswolds outside the ancient market town of Minchinhampton sits the Ragged Cot, a country inn getaway created for serious pleasure seekers. Born of a 17th century coaching house inn set beside six hundred acres of National Trust common land the Ragged Cot is a pretty special place with an intriguing history of highwaymen and pilferage. The proprietors of the Ragged Cot take pride in their professional approach to food and service, with the seasonal menu offering great British food sourced from local farmers and even their own vegetable garden. With dishes such as seared ox tongue with pickled red cabbage, pheasant with braised leeks and artichoke puree or just simply ham, eggs with triple cooked chips you will always find a dish to fit; The Kitchen (www.thekitchenminchinhampton.co.uk): Choose a seat by the beautiful bay window and watch for riders trotting by on horseback or perhaps the occasional herd of cows strolling down from the Common. Our lovely cottage is in the centre of the rural historic town of Dursley. The Cotswold Way passes through making it the ideal rest-stop. Dursley is also ideally located for commuting to Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol and Stroud. Our guest room is a cosy double bedroom within our two-bedroomed house, with views over the garden and the chickens - which give fresh eggs daily! We are LGBT friendly.
The double bedroom is small but warm and cosy. Guests are welcome to make use of the bathroom, kitchen and living room, which is prefect to unwind in after a busy day!
We love living in Dursley! The cottage is in the centre of the town although feels like it's in the middle of the countryside! There are great independent restaurants, shops and plenty of walks to keep you busy. Dursley sits within easy reach of Gloucester, Bristol, Stroud and the charming Cotswolds which makes it the ideal place to stay.

Welcome to Butterrow Gate, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Butterrow Gate is a distinctive, beautifully renovated Grade II listed property which sits proudly on Butterrow Hill on the outskirts of the market town of Stroud. Located in the heart of the stunning "Five Valleys" region of the Cotswolds, Stroud is well known for its bohemian vibe and eclectic mix of shops, with Jasper Conran describing the weekly Farmers' Market held in the town as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". The Five Valleys converge on Stroud and contain some of the most beautiful countryside Britain has to offer. Butterrow Gate is also well placed for exploring further afield, with the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham both within easy reach. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
The green front door opens into an entrance hall which houses the washing machine/tumble dryer, and the following rooms are on the ground floor: Living/dining room: Laid with beautiful flagstone flooring, this uniquely shaped room features original Cotswold stone walls, pretty stone mullion windows and a cosy wood burning stove. Tastefully decorated, this room contains a sofa, a footstool and an armchair, along with a Freesat TV with DVD player and a small dining table with drop down leaves which comfortably seats two; Kitchen: This compact yet well-equipped space contains an electric oven with four ring-induction hob, a dishwasher, Morphy Richards coffee machine, a fridge with a small freezer compartment, a kettle and toaster; Family bathroom: Located off the entrance hall, this room contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the living area directly into the characterful bedroom: Master bedroom: With original Elm floorboards dating back to 1825, and exposed Cotswold stone walls, this bedroom has a romantic ambience and stunning views from the stone mullion windows over the pretty market town of Stroud and the surrounding valley. There is a pretty wrought iron double bed and two occasional chairs, as well an ornamental stone fireplace and a double wardrobe. The stable door from the bedroom opens onto the outside patio area decorated with pretty pots and featuring the walk-on glass area directly above the kitchen. Three steps lead up to a larger patio area with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the market town of Stroud. This private, sunny space has an outdoor table, two chairs and a wooden bench, perfect for relaxing on warm summer days. A charcoal barbecue is provided from April to September, and there is a chiminea for cooler evenings. The outside space can also be accessed via a right of way through the neighbour’s garden and on street parking is available close to the property.
Encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee's novel "Cider with Rosie", the scenery is dramatic around Stroud. The town and its surrounding villages provide a great base from which to explore the undiscovered south Cotswolds, as well as for day trips to Bristol and Bath. London is just a 90 minute direct train away. At a time when the prevalence of chain stores has turned many of Britain's High Streets into copies of each other, Stroud is a welcome relief. With a bohemian vibe and an enviable array of independent shops, Stroud offers a unique shopping experience unrivalled by any town or city in the locality. Brimming with character and standing amidst the dramatic backdrop of the Five Valleys, Stroud has an eclectic mix of shops in the most beautiful of settings. The award-winning Farmers' Market is held each Saturday and is one of the best in the country, described by Jasper Conran as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". Throughout the summer months, street performers will entertain you every Saturday morning and there is a full programme of music and theatre throughout the year – a true hub of cultural events. Stroud is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! Food & Drink Stroud has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit all tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: JRooL Bistro (www.jrool.co.uk): JRooL Bistro is a fine example of the sum of its parts being greater than the whole. The team has a passion for food and wine, such that the end result is an experience of food, wine and service that is, simply, award winning. The flexibility of the dining room encourages leisurely family lunches, business dining, appetisers and drinks at the bar, pre-theatre dinners or a full gastronomic experience; No 23 Bar & Bistro: No 23 is a popular, independent Stroud Bar, Café and Restaurant, specialising in tapas and Mediterranean fare. The fully stocked bar serves choice wines, beers and aperitifs to complement the extensive menu; Sorrento Italian Restaurant (www.sorrentostroud.co.uk): The menu offers superb presentations of traditional favourites, such as pizzas, pasta, succulent steaks, chicken and fish dishes, all served in a relaxing, friendly environment. Stroud also has a wide range of food retailers, including an award winning Farmers' Market, held every Saturday.

This is a 1750's cottage on a country lane in an extraordinary location, 20 minute walk to the small town of Nailsworth, and a pastoral walk through the abundant waters & garden valley leading to Ruskin Mill Centre & Cafe (best homemade food around!)
This is a 3-storey cottage, with an overview from kitchen and sitting room of tall trees and luscious green hillside The close proximity of Ruskin Mill Trust (see below) puts us in the heart of all that inspired the vision for young lives, land and waterways.
For instance(!) I pop into the village health shop on my birthday and they donate me fresh cream to celebrate, I return to the cottage and someone else has left the corresponding perfect apple pie. In short, heartfelt neighbours living their joy, painting, making music, planting veggies & flowers, circle singing and dancing and rambling walks. Ruskin Mill Trust has transformed this Valley over the course of nearly 50 years. It is a truly delightful and beneficial presence in this Community. My now-grown children were inspired by Ruskin Mill classes as part of their core curriculum in college (and Alisdair, one of the founder's sons -see below- was their college principal!). A little history - "The seeds of Ruskin Mill (Educational) Trust were sown in 1967, when Robin and Barbara Gordon transplanted their young sons Aonghus and Alasdair from the hothouse of the Ruskin Centre for Art Appreciation in Venice to the cold-frame of a dilapidated former textile mill in Gloucestershire. They had fallen into fertile soil. Within the steep, wooded valleys of the Severn escarpment, a thousand years of the wool trade had bequeathed Horsley and Nailsworth a built environment of exceptional quality, a pioneering spirit and a keen pride in design and craftsmanship. Over the next fifteen years, they were energised by the inspirations of three men whose visions had helped shape the lives of the Gordon family: Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. By 1984, they had germinated into the Ruskin Mill Centre for Arts and Cultural Regeneration. In that year, pupils from nearby Cotswold Chine Special School helped restore the mill's water-wheel. The next year, two more joined what was soon to become the Living Earth Training Course. The Living Earth Course combined biodynamic agriculture in a market garden with the craft curriculum sourced from the Arts and Crafts movement, the insights into human development provided by Rudolf Steiner and a commitment to responsible stewardship of the land for future generations. This curriculum, the so-called Descent into Matter, accessed the four elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire through the three Kingdoms of Nature: - Animal - leatherwork, felt-making and weaving - Plant - basketry, carving and green woodwork - Mineral - pottery, stone carving, stained glass and metalwork Students boarded with local families, and received additional support through anthroposophic medicine and associated therapies. Crucially, students were constantly immersed in the commercial activities of the Mill: the small craft workshops, cafe and other retail outlets. This braiding of practical education, home-making, commerce and environmental awareness gave them the unique therapeutic experience of transforming their environment into useful commodities, for exchange within the market economy. This vision has remained at the heart of the Trust's work ever since." Ruskin Mill Trust says: "This is how we want our world to be: Each individual experiences meaningful relationships with universe, earth and people and has the potential to shape their own future."

There is also a SMART TV with a DVD player; Reading room: The living room adjoins this pretty room, which has French doors opening out to the garden. The door to this bedroom is at the bottom of the stairs and it is not possible to put a stair gate at the top of the stairs, so this room may not be suitable for young children. The main garden area is at the front of the cottage, enclosed by Cotswold stone walls, and is mostly laid to lawn, with traditionally planted cottage garden borders and a variety of mature shrubs and trees. There is a patio area outside the conservatory, with an outdoor table and seating for six, which provides spectacular views across the valley to Woodchester and benefits from glorious sunsets. The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

A modern house in a quiet cul-de-sac with stunning views of the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Very good size room with tea/coffee making facilities. Private bathroom (occasional night time use of loo by lodger, until end of March 2020). A continental style self service breakfast is provided in the kitchen/diner. Nailsworth centre is a 15 minutes walk. Bus stop is a 4 minutes walk with route into Nailsworth, Stroud which has a mainline train station. Train to London Paddington is just 90 mins
I am a life long yoga/meditation teacher and can offer private sessions. I am a vegan and I maintain a vegetarian household (with the exception of Chessie, the cat). Chessie is not allowed into bedrooms, bathroom or kitchen, therefore I ask that you keep doors closed please. In the hallway of the main entrance, there is an under stairs space for outdoor shoes.
There are many walks from the house, including into the woodland and down to a lovely country pub, The George. Nearby is Forest Green Rovers , the world's only vegan football club. The famous Woodchester valley with the incomplete mansion and lakes, is a walkable distance. Nailsworth is a lovely little town or a large village with many independent shops, a variety of restaurants and a super market.

The Retreat is situated on Woodchester Valley Vineyard in the Cotswolds, close to Stroud and 1 mile from Nailsworth town with many restaurants, walks, shops and supermarkets. It offers spacious accommodation with stunning views over the valley, a fully equipped kitchen, log burners in both the kitchen and sitting rooms as well as the full sky TV package in 2 separate rooms. As this is adjacent to a working vineyard, regrettably no children under the age of 12 can be accommodated.
The master bedroom offers a super king size bed which can be made into twin beds upon request.
We are located 1.5 miles from the bustling town of Nailsworth, which has an abundance of restaurants, cafés and pubs for breakfast, brunch and dinner options. We are 3.5 miles from the market town of Stroud which boasts one of the best farmers markets in the country every Saturday. The spa towns of Cheltenham and Bath are within 45 minutes, and the area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and those looking for a base from which to explore the South Cotswolds.

Don’t be put off by our lack of coastline either! We have 40 miles of lakes in the Cotswold Water Park and numerous gently winding streams, canals and waterways criss-crossing the picturesque towns and villages. On the door step: WOODCHESTER PARK - the secret valley: Nestled in the Cotswolds, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a Victorian mansion, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and an abundance of wildlife. The 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece was abandoned in mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed. Visitors walk through an extraordinary architectural exhibit in which the secrets of the medieval Gothic builders and masons are laid bare. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world. 3 mins drive / 30 mins walk: NAILSWORTH: The artistic, market town of Nailsworth is nestled in a wooded valley in the south Cotswolds. Nailsworth is renowned for its selection of award-winning restaurants, pubs and cafes. Eating out in Nailsworth means you are spoilt for choice. Hobbs House Bakery is famous for being owned by the Fabulous Baker Brothers – Tom and Henry Herbert – and was featured on their TV show. William’s Food Hall has helped turn Nailsworth into a foodie haven. It draws celebrities and foodies through its doors to dine on fresh seafood and local produce. 5 mins drive: MINCHINHAMPTON The delightful, small market town of Minchinhampton sits on the edge of Minchinhampton Common. It's made up of pretty stone cottages, many dating back to the 17th century and medieval wool trade. There is a weekly country market and a good choice of cafes. Minchinhampton was chosen as a scenic location for the recent BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. Please drive carefully over the common and keep an eye out for (URL HIDDEN) of the most famous residents is the Princess Royal who lives at Gatcombe Park on the edge of town. Every year, the famously quirky Giffords Circus takes up residence in Minchinhampton as part of its annual summer tour of the Cotswolds. 15 mins drive: TETBURY: Tetbury is a historic market town that is now internationally famous for its range of antiques shops and dealers. Independent boutique shops sit alongside restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guides. Tetbury attracts everyone from Royalty (Prince Charles and his sons' home, Highgrove, sits less than a mile away) to English countryside lovers, antique-finders, foodies and real ale connoisseurs. 8 min drive: STROUD: In the opposite direction and you will find yourself in the market town of Stroud - Situated below the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at the meeting point of the Five Valleys, the town is noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA

Quiet valley close to bustling town in the 'undiscovered Cotswolds'. Nailsworth is a good base for exploring the area on foot or by car; or a handy retreat for business visitors. Around 50 mins by car from Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham or Gloucester; 15 mins from Stroud. Nailsworth is very much a "foodie" town, with many superb restaurants and bars: Wild Garlic, Wilder, The Vault, Amalfi, Oldstone, Passage to India and Giuseppe's to name a few. If you are visiting over a weekend booking is highly recommended.

This studio apartment provides a cosy retreat for two people, with a special rustic charm. It is set in the last bay of Owlpen’s grade one listed medieval barn, and massive oak cruck beams date it to 1446 making it one of the oldest surviving barns in the Cotswolds.
This historic building has been completely renovated in the same style as Owlpen's larger cottages. INTERIOR The open plan studio, light and spacious, has comfortable seating and a king-sized double bed, like a hotel suite. Key Features •Cosy retreat for two with rustic charm •Historic building with original features •Hotel suite style studio apartment •Dog friendly •Sleeps 2 Two steps lead up to the kitchenette and dining area with views towards the manor gardens and meadows. Adjacent is the bathroom, with sunken bath and handheld shower. The cottage is heated with high capacity electric storage heaters. Outside there is a large private terrace with a small wrought iron table to enjoy a morning cup of coffee in the sunshine. The cottage is situated in the heart of Owlpen's valley, over the Estate Office and Cyder House restaurant.
The Owlpen valley has long been recognised as one of the most romantic places in England and provides guests with an exclusive and relaxing hideaway, surrounded by private woods and hills and many miles of walks--from a gentle stroll round the estate trails to a 20 mile trek along the Cotswold Way. Village pub in Uley called The Old Crown, just a short walk across the fields serving local ales and cheerful food. Also a cafe called The Vestry, great for brunch! Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion are three miles away, as well as many historic houses, including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House and Sudeley Castle. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will want to return to see and explore it all. The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills, limestone villages and scenic attractions. The magical deep wooded valleys here form its most spectacular scenery. Extra details Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses, castles and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the privacy of the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and 800-years of history.
