Historic Barn Conversion in Worcestershire
Escape to this cosy Barn in the picturesque village of Defford. First built in the 1830s, the updated residence balances the original finishes with modern amenities, featuring repointed brick, exposed beams, and antique furnishings.
The Barn is self-contained and private, with the owners living in the farm house next door, so at hand for any recommendations or questions.
There are many places of interest in easy reach of the Barn including the Malvern Hills, Worcester, Cheltenham and The Cotswolds. Slightly further afield Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham are approximately an hour away.
Coach House Barn is a recently renovated self-catering barn conversion situated in the picturesque village of Defford, just a short drive from Pershore, in the heart of Worcestershire. Originally the coach house to Defford House it has a fascinating history, dating back to the 1830’s. Allegedly Queen Victoria’s Aunt Adelaide, the dowager Queen, would visit the house en-route to visit her relatives at Croome Court.
Coach House Barn is located within the walled gardens of Defford House through secure gates. Outside there is a tranquil and sunny courtyard garden for the sole use of guests and has seating with plenty of space for alfresco dining. Parking is for up to two cars on the drive
Coach House Barn has been renovated to a very high standard yet care has been taken to retain the original historic character of the building. The Barn is extremely comfortable and has a wealth of exposed brickwork, oak beams, central heating and conservation double-glazing throughout.
Coach House Barn has been tastefully furnished with a combination of modern and antique furniture and there are original art works dotted all through the property. It has two double bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms, and one single bedroom suitable for a family or two couples sharing the property. Children are very welcome and a cot can be provided on advance booking together with a high chair and stair gates.
Lounge/diner: A large open plan living/dining area with dining table and chairs to seat four, two twin leather sofas, coffee tables, Wi Fi, and TV with DVD player.
Kitchen: Fully equipped with electric cooker, hob and hood, stainless sink, kettle, microwave, cooking utensils, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, Kitchen aid, nespresso style coffee maker, crockery cutlery.
Hall/galleried staircase: A display case featuring Lisa’s artwork stands at the bottom of the oak timber staircase. A cupboard under the stairs contains tumble drier and ironing facilities. The two-tier staircase ends in a short mezzanine with both bedrooms at either end.
Master Bedroom: With exposed beams and brickwork, two skylights, king size bed, bedside tables, double wardrobe, dressing table and full length mirror. There is also a seating area with a small sofa. The bed linen provided is Egyptian cotton with luxury pillows and duvets.
Master En Suite: A large and beautifully finished room with separate bath, double shower, WC, hand basin and heated towel rail.
Double Bedroom: With twin single beds, exposed beams and skylight. This room leads to steps down to the dressing room.
Dressing Room: With a single bed, chair and window
Shower Room: A shower room with single shower, WC, hand basin, and heated towel rail.
Situated in the picturesque village of Defford, just a short drive from Pershore, in the heart of Worcestershire, Coach House Barn is located within the walled garden of one of the village’s Georgian historic buildings. The garden has been designed with attention to detail with box hedging and espalier apple trees. The sunny private courtyard has an abundance of planting ranging from Olive trees to Japanese Acers, suitable for relaxing and alfresco dining with a barbecue/fire and chinenea.
Guests have a private access to the property and a key can be obtained for the property at any time of arrival.
There is private off road parking on the drive of the property for a maximum of 2 cars.
The owners live in adjoining property, Defford House and can welcome visitors at all times.
Defford is a village on the edge of Bredon Hill and it’s renowned for its agriculture, specialising in asparagus and fruit. The village boasts an award-winning farm shop selling local high-quality produce, a garage, and a recently renovated pub, serving food all day. The pub is in walking distance from the Barn and is open 7 days a week.
There are many beautiful countryside and woodland walks around the village with views of the Malvern Hills in the distance.
Worcester and Cheltenham are just over 20 minutes away. Birmingham, Bristol and Oxford can be reached in less than an hour. London and Manchester is just over 100 miles away and you can be on the M5 in about 10 minutes from Defford.
There is a station in Pershore which has direct routes to London Paddington, Birmingham New Street and the Cotswolds.
The large master bedroom has a king size bed. The second bedroom has twin single beds and the third bedroom is a small dressing room with a single bed. This dressing room is interconnected to the second bedroom.

Our Garden Studio has recently been converted. It is light and airy, cosy and warm. Sitting in the garden of a grade 2 listed cottage, it has its own entrance and patio doors leading to secluded alfresco dining area and garden.
Eckington is a small friendly village within walking distance of two pubs, corner store, hairdresser, restaurant and a cookery school. We are close to the beautiful circular river Avon walk, and the deer park on Bredon Hill.
