Big R's Retreat Secluded and located in Nature

Welcome to our home: where we have found peace and relaxation for over 20 years. A German native, Big R fell in love with the open land and rolling hills of Wisconsin, becoming a US citizen in the 80s. He met Curly, a Chicago city girl, who brought a little city to his country life. They enjoy raising buffalo and spending warmer days on their porch enjoying the fresh air and beautiful views (with no mosquitos!). Now they want to share their idyllic and peaceful home with you. Drive down a dead-end road and pull up to a rustic cabin filled with high-tech and cozy amenities. We have something for everyone with a gas fireplace, tv (complete with dish, Cinemax, HBO and a Bluetooth sound system), board games and a full kitchen. Take a drink outside to soak in the hot tub or sit around the campfire. When the day is done, you will fall asleep instantly on the memory foam bed, either in the loft or the bedroom, and wake up to a beautiful sunrise looking out over your little getaway.

YurtSimple

YurtSimple is where life slows down and people unplug. It’s forest bathing in nature. It’s getting away from it all to spend time with a partner, by oneself, and sometimes with pets. You’ll be driving past YurtCation (about 300 feet past YurtCation) to get to YurtSimple. YurtCation is 20’ in diameter and YurtSimple is 16’ in diameter. Wood and charcoal are provided. You may cook on the indoor wood stove top, or visit any number of great restaurants 2 miles away. You can even order pizza delivery

Nature’s Nest

Unwind and immerse yourself in nature at this cozy cabin overlooking Timber Coulee Creek. Large living room windows and a spacious deck provide you with a bird’s eye view of the rippling river and many types of wild life. Deer amble through the property; eagles soar and keep an eagle eye on everything. Turkeys, squirrels, coons, and myriad of birds go about their business in this serene environment. Rustic camping in the Driftless Region on the top of a bluff in a 20ft Bell Tent ,extra tent with queen air mattress. Relax without having to pack, set up , tear down and put away when you get home, more time to do things you enjoy. Go trout fishing, walk or ride the Omaha Trail Tunnel, Elroy- Sparta Trail, or the 400 Trail. Necedah Wildlife Refuge, Buckhorn, Castle Rock, Wisconsin Dells, Amish scenic drive, and Wildcat State Park with canoeing down the Kickapoo River are all within 30 minutes.

Settle into a quaint farmhouse nestled in a valley in the rolling, forested hills of the Driftless Region. Start your day with a cup of local coffee on the front porch. Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin's Driftless area, a remote, lovely, nearly-wild kingdom, easy driving distance from Chicago and Madison. As of 2025, a resident beaver family are redesigning the creek/yard: you'll have a front row seat.

Driftless Yurt on Harmony Ridge

Our little piece of heaven is located 9 miles NW of Viroqua, WI. Our yurt is nestled in 14 acres of red /white oak, walnut and maples above the Bad Axe River. The yurt is 300 sq. ft, comfortably sleeps 4, pet friendly and has a large wrap around deck. We have a wood burning stove, propane cooking stove top, a fully stocked kitchen galley, 8 gallons of drinking / cooking water, propane and fire pit grill, there's an extra deck with picnic table, manual shower and composting toilet.
