We eat here often. Top notch, carefully procured food, often local independent sources. The menu is awesome, so is the wait staff. You will not be disappointed! Reservations are best. If you are celebrating anything, DO IT HERE!

Local, iconic and decent plate lunches all day breakfasts, and the best pies in the state. Highly recommend their burgers, strawberry, chocolate and coconut pies. Plate lunches change daily. Less than a mile away from the apartment. We eat here about 3 times a month. Usually lunch time.

Local and iconic, very interesting history. Shrimp Buster, cup of gumbo, all more than good. Great selection of beer. Step back in time. Less than 10 minute drive. Don't be put off by the neighborhood, plenty of patrons and security.

Another great Iconic Shreveport family owned restaurant. Italian, and boy, it is good. The shrimp toast is a meal alone. Their brownies, if they are not sold out, fantastic. My favorite, the muffaletta. But anything you get will not disappoint. About 3 minutes away.

Tony's puts the yum in frozen cocktails. And, yes, you can get them to go. If you want to really go southern, ask for a double shot. My favorite is the eggnog from Thanksgiving through the New Year, but anything they sell year round, will also be worth the drive. About 10 minutes away.

Grocery store about 2 minutes away. Some wines to choose from, deli (don't get the southern fried fish at the Deli!!) and good selection of grocery and toiletries.

For the kids and adults alike. Almost across the street from the Sci-Port, also a great place to take the kids. Salt restaurant inside the aquarium is an off the grid place to enjoy a meal or a snack.

For the beer lovers. This place is cool and funky. You can choose from variety of micro-brew as well. Many wonderful food trucks are parked on any given evening. Be sure to check for open days and closed days before heading just south of I20 almost under the bridge.

If you need to shop for clothes, Dillards is my go to. Located in Mall St. Vincent about 5 minutes away. As with so many Malls across the nation, some of the shops are not leased. It is well kept, clean and some food options are good choices after shopping.

Located in our neighborhood on Creswell Avenue, virgin pine trees, natural slope from days or yore when an actual lake was there, the pathways are perfect for walking, jogging or just sitting under the pergola to eat a picnic lunch. In September of every year, the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival takes over the park for a day of food, fun and great music. Still free and open to the public. NO ICE CHESTS or outside drinks allowed.

Located in our other historic neighborhood, South Highlands, this is the queen of all our city parks. And she is beautiful. About 5 minutes away by car, plenty of excellent play equipment for the kids. Trail and pathways are great and local clubs have added to the beauty with native species plantings. Pay attention to the ancient cypress trees, appear to almost be gentle giants standing watch over. Different festivals through out the year, but on any day, you will find families enjoying this park, cooking on the provided grills and taking advantage of the best park in the city. Dogs welcomed but must be leashed and you MUST pick up after your dogs.

Look, I know you came to Shreveport, but once you enter the pathways behind Norton, you are transported. The Museum is great, the art and bronze statues, but what is behind the Norton is literally superb. There are statues, flora and fauna, water features and paths to wander. It is spectacular. Shady and cool besides the water reservoirs, you may find ducks, birds and fish as your walking mates.

Shreveport's water source and a great natural resource for fun. The Yatch Club has a grand flotilla every year. Skiing, fishing, tubing, rowing, paddle boarding, sailing, are all activities you will find there. My absolute favorite is the intermediate resting/roosting place for white pelicans from late fall thru late winter. It is a spectacle to behold.

SRAC has a very active, engaged, art community with shows, installations and projects ongoing year round. Anything they sponsor is worthy. A drive by their brick and mortar will reveal murals galore, a light changing spotted doggie and a tower once used as a fireman training site, now for artists in residence. High quality art, music and written or spoken word showcased and elevated.

Finally, after 10 years of fundraising and with the help of the parish commission and the city, we got a place for our fur babies. There are two sections, one for big dogs and one for smaller. We had already lost our two westies to age when it finally opened. But my friends with dogs say it is a great park and doggie approved!
