Touchstone Cottage is a lovingly restored 200 year old fisherman's cottage just a stone's throw from Mevagissey's working harbour on the much sought after sunny East Cliff. As a 19th century cottage, tucked away up a secluded cobbled path, you are unable to reach the Cottage by car; this ensures that you will enjoy a peaceful stay. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within walking distance, while The Eden Project is just a short 20 minute drive. The nearest beach is 10 minutes away on foot.
The upper floor of the Cottage is light and airy; a partition wall has been removed to create a 'mezzanine' bedroom, next to the bathroom. The bedroom has a lovely view across the cobbled back streets of the Village. Light floods down the stairs to the Living Room which features original floorboards which have been lovingly restored, and a log burning stove. There are exposed beams throughout and heaps of character. The cottage is painted white throughout, and features lovely Loaf furniture in the bedroom and living room. Downstairs, on the ground floor, the kitchen/diner features the prettiest slate tiles complete with underfloor heating. Should you choose to cook at home you will find that the kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob and oven, and a lovely pale blue 1950s style SMEG fridge with freezer box. The look is complemented by the mid-century Ercol table and chairs. Finally, a word of caution, the internal stairs are original and are therefore tight and steep, and the cobbled path leading to the cottage can be slippery when wet! I very much look forward to welcoming you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions.
Mevagissey is a beautiful base from which to explore the surrounding area and you will experience a real slice of traditional Cornish life during your stay. In the village itself you will find many lovely shops to browse around alongside 'olde worlde' pubs, cafes and restaurants, where you can eat and drink locally sourced produce. The fishermen haul in their catch at the end of the day and both deep-sea angling trips and short mackerel fishing trips in the bay are available from the quay. The seagulls follow the boats in and are very noisy; just thought I would mention this as the cottage is very close to the harbour! During the summer months there are ferries that will take you from the harbour to Fowey or around the coastline. Mevagissey also has its own small sealife aquarium and museum. Mevagissey is surrounded by beautiful beaches which you can access from The Coast Path; the cottage is just seconds from the Coast Path. You can walk up 'The Cliff' to the top and follow the footpath to beautiful Polstreath beach (steps down) or you can walk over the top of Polkirt Hill and down to Portmellon beach, a sandy cove with plenty of rock pools. From here you can follow the Coast Path to Colona Beach at Chapel Point beach, and, if you are a keen walker, you can keep on walking to Gorran Haven Beach, and you might catch sight of seals, dolphins or even basking sharks on the way. Mevagissey does have its own small beach in the harbour if you do not want to walk. There are many other unspoilt beaches within 10 minutes' drive including Gorran Haven, Vault Beach, Hemmick and Porthluney 'Caerhays', to name but a few. Lovely unspoilt villages such as Port Holland and Portloe, the majestic Nare Head and Pendower Beach, and the Roseland Peninsula and its beautiful beaches, including Towan beach, are all within a 30 minute drive. You can also take the scenic King Harry Ferry across the Fal River and continue on to Falmouth. The North Coast is a short 40 minute drive away and there are surfing beaches at Newquay, Perranporth etc. Mevagissey also hosts its own Feast Week during the last week of June when the harbour is decorated with bright lights and flags, there is a full week of activities and on the final evening there is a spectacular firework display around the harbour. Local Beach Summary Mevagissey beach in the harbour (5 minutes walk) Polstreath beach (steps down) - walk up 'The Cliff' on the east side of the harbour to the top and follow the Coast Path (10 minutes walk) Pentewan beach - follow the Coast Path east of Polstreath beach Portmellon beach - walk over the top of Polkirt Hill (20 minutes walk) Colona Beach, Chapel Point - follow the Coast Path west of Portmellon (30 minutes walk)

The Housekeeper's Hideaway is a unique studio space 2 minutes walk from Mevagissey's picturesque working fishing harbour. The space is perfect for couples, or solo travellers, who are looking for somewhere a little unusual, definitely with a boutique feel, as well as wanting a cosy home-from-home to return to at the end of the day. The cave like structure of the original dwelling, including the cliff wall, was exposed during an extensive refurbishment in 2016 and dates back to the mid 1600s.
Access to your own front door is down one flight of external stairs from my patio. The space is unique because when you descend the stairs and look through the window you then discover that you are actually two floors up as the house is built into the cliff. Light floods into the space through the beautiful double sash window - which fills an entire wall of the studio - and you can gaze out across the village. The immediate view is of rooftops and the neighbour's patio. Another wall of the studio - a lime pointed stone wall - is at ground level against a secret passage way which runs behind a terrace of nearby cottages. There is now a window where there was once a doorway through which the Housekeeper - for the adjoining property The Old Dairy - would pass to reach her husband's cottage. There is a huge fire place with a Wood Burner for cosy evenings in a painted stone wall. The fourth and final wall - the backdrop for your bathroom / shower and small kitchen - is actually the rock face or cliff. There are two marks in the cliff that suggest the cottage was once home to a traditional pilchard press which, given that the Housekeeper's husband was a fisherman, is likely. The space has been sympathetically restored keeping all of the original features. The overall look is paired back and simple with a touch of modern industrial; the space also features Danish-style pale solid ash flooring. The wet room has gorgeous fittings and natural stone tiles from Fired Earth that complement the rock and I have added a super cute mini kitchen from IKEA so that you can cook breakfast and simple meals. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like any further information. PLEASE NOTE: in order to highlight the cliff wall - the wet room (loo and basin) within the studio space is enclosed behind a large glass screen / door which does not extend to the ceiling. However whilst a stunning and unique design feature this does not allow for a great deal of privacy; please take this into consideration before booking.

Cove Cottage has the enviable location of being a stone's throw from the harbour in Portloe, and benefits from sea views, a terraced patio to the rear that looks down over the harbour and excellent, spacious, accommodation in this traditional fisherman's cottage.
Cove Cottage is brilliantly located a stone's throw from the harbour and beach right in the heart of the quintessential Cornish fishing village of Portloe. The entrance level is open plan with a spacious lounge at one end and kitchen dining room at the other, an open fire to keep you warm in the winter and a sun trap of a terrace which is surprisingly private being this close to the harbour. Portloe is one of those perfect little Cornish fishing villages, beautifully positioned around a stunning little cove and harbour. Like many such villages, smuggling played a large part in Portloe's history with many tales of cat and mouse games played between locals and the authorities! In 1824, the problem became so bad that Customs ordered the construction of a Watch House, boathouse and slipway in a vain attempt to deter the illicit trade. Accommodation Ground Floor: Back door is situated at this level and is approached through a narrow alleyway to the rear of the property it opens into a hallway with doors to a large twin bedroom, a wet room with shower WC and hand basin and stairs leading to: First Floor: Large Open plan living / dining and small kitchen area, with fully fitted units and all facilities. The living room area has an open fire and flat screen TV, double aspect, with windows over-looking harbour and patio. The front door leads onto the patio / garden area. Stairs lead up to; Second Floor: Master bedroom with 5' double bed, chest of drawers and window with views of the harbour. Family bathroom with bath with handheld shower, WC and hand basin. Second twin bedroom with storage and locked linen cupboard. Exterior: Patio area with chairs and tables and secondary raised decked area with views to the harbour. Facilities & Services Heating is via electric night storage heaters. The kitchen has a range of equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge / freezer. Visitors are usually able to park opposite the Lugger Hotel above the slipway although there is not a designated space for the property however parking is available at the top of the village in the main car park. The Roseland Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and forms one of the finest sections of Cornwall's South Coast. From Mevagissey to St Mawes and bordered by the Fal Estuary to the west, the Roseland Peninsula has been drawing visitors for years with its splendid coastline, unique gardens, historic villages and superb sailing waters. A truly magnificent part of Cornwall, the Roseland Peninsula is a wonderful place to spend a memorable holiday. With The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project in one direction and Falmouth and the National Maritime Museum in the other the Roseland is brimming with places to visit and things to do.Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. The steep sided valley has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". Broom Parc, the country house setting (now a B&B) for the Camomile Lawn a 1992 TV drama is a short walk up the coast path.It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, yet it has a really good local pub & hotel. The village itself is only a short drive from the other villages such as St Mawes. The city of Truro is also within a 25 minute drive. The Lugger Hotel with its excellent restaurant is only a few steps away and the Ship Inn is a short walk. The New Inn at Veryan serves food. There is also the Portloe Tea Room nearby. There is no general store in Portloe, however there are shops at Veryan (1.4 miles) and a Londis store at Bessy Beneath (3 miles). Further pubs, shops & restaurants are also available in Tregony, Ruan Lanihorne, Portscatho & St Mawes.Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along past Towan beach and out to St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick, Towan and Porthbeor are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well-stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century sits on Castle Point at the mouth of the River Fal. At the top of St Mawes, Lamorran Gardens house a wonderful collection of tropical plants with lovely views down into the Harbour. St Just-in-Roseland has arguably the most photographed church in Cornwall. The 13th century church sits quietly tucked away on the edge of the creek. The Veryan Roundhouses are a must see, on the way to Nare Head, where you will find the most spectacular views of Gerrans Bay. The little village of Portloe nestles in lovely valley and is one of Cornwall's quintessential spots. Portscatho has a number of art galleries and many artists find the light in this harbour village inspires much of their work. The Roseland Inn at Philleigh is a 16th century pub just waiting for you to visit, as is the newly refurbished Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne, perfect for that afternoon Cornish Cream Tea, now run by Tregothnan Estate home to the UK's first tea plantation. The most popular thing to do though on the Roseland is simply to walk and enjoy some of Cornwall's most beautiful coastline.Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place.

The adorable Beach Hill Cottage is located in the heart of the picturesque & unspoilt village of Portloe only yards from the harbour beach and is perfect for a couple or a small family all year round. Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Its steep sided valleys has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". Portloe is an ideal place to stay on the Roseland Peninsula. It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, yet it has a really good local pub & hotel. Further pubs, shops & restaurants are also available in Tregony, Ruan Lanihorne, Portscatho & St Mawes.

The village of Tregony in Cornwall is often referrred to as the 'gateway to the Roseland'. The exceptionally wide Fore Street is a relic from the days when this was a busy port and market town with considerable traffic. The port has long since silted up due in part to china clay workings up stream, but Tregony has retained its charm. Tregony has an unusual clock tower on Fore Street and the seventeenth century almshouses which boast an unusual wooden gallery. The site of a twelfth century Norman castle known as ‘Treg-ney' from which the village got its name is situated on Tregony Hill. The woods and riverside in the area between here and Ruan Lanihorne are fantastic to explore. The river is a firm favourite with ornithologists the magical Lamorran Woods are alive with bluebells in the spring. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and the city of Truro are only a short drive away from Tregony.

The Roseland Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and forms one of the finest sections of Cornwall's South Coast. From Mevagissey in the east to the Fal Estuary to the west, the Roseland has been drawing visitors for years with its splendid coastline, unique gardens, historic villages and superb sailing waters. A truly magnificent part of Cornwall, the Roseland is a wonderful place to spend a memorable holiday. From The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project in one direction and Falmouth and the National Maritime Museum in the other the Roseland is brimming with places to visit and things to do. The area is an excellent centre for visiting Cornwall's famous gardens, most of the major gardens all lie within a 25 mile radius; and are particularly magnificent in the spring when the magnolias, rhododendrons and camelias are in flower. The closest village to Crugsillick is Veryan - most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by the vicar, the Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters and built in the round so that there were no corners where the devil could hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection! Veryan has a children's playground, an excellent village shop and a good pub. Very close to Crugsillick is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill which serves lunches and cream teas.A couple of miles to the east, Portloe is considered one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Its steep sided valley has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". The Lugger Hotel has an excellent restaurant and the Ship Inn is also a good place to eat.St Mawes is a lovely small town with lots of places to eat from smart hotels to fish and chips, small shops and a pretty harbour with opportunities for sailing, kayaking and fishing. St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century sits on Castle Point at the mouth of the River Fal. At the top of St Mawes, Lamorran Garden has a wonderful collection of tropical plants with lovely views down into the Harbour. There are many pretty churches in the area but St Just-in-Roseland has, arguably, the most photographed church in Cornwall. The 13th century church sits quietly tucked away on the edge of the creek surrounded by exotic trees and shrubs.Portscatho overlooks the dramatic Gerrans Bay towards Nare Head. A quiet waterside village, Portscatho has a very pretty harbour, a good pub, an excellent general store, two modestly priced restaurants and three galleries. Above the closest beach, Porthcurnick, is the Hidden Hut - a well-known and excellent lunch, tea and ice cream venue. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists. More than anything, Portscatho is a place to relax.Events on the Roseland get a bit busier in August when sailing regattas, carnivals and fun days take place in many villages and the waters of the Carrick Roads. Year round, though, it is the beauty of the coast here that brings people back again and again. There are some stunning beaches around Gerrans Bay from Carne and Pendower in the east stretching round through Porthcurnick (Rosevine) and on to Towan and Porthbeor to the west, they are nearly all very accessible and have plenty of exposed sand at low tide and magical rock pools which can keep children engaged for hours. Most importantly compared to the hustle and bustle of the north coast they are comparatively empty!

There are few places where one can wake up to see, smell and hear the ocean all around you, but Perhaver Shepherd's Hut is one of them! Staying here is a truly relaxing experience, perfect for couples, lone travellers or a parent and child. However, please do note the maximum number of guests we allow are two and the hut is not suitable for infants. There is a well planned kitchen and dining area with hob, small oven, microwave, and fridge. Breakfast bar with tall stools and small fold down table with 2 chairs is your dining table for two or a desk for those lucky enough to work remotely. The double doors can be opened to include the curved wooden deck as part of the living space. There is a BBQ, outdoor dining furniture and sun-loungers for two. Although the hut is great for summer days, with under-floor heating and excellent insulation, WIFI, and lots of books, it still makes the perfect winter getaway. The lovely curved wooden deck with a rope balustrade overlooks a large lawned garden with a wide panoramic view of the bay. The cliff-scape and rocky headland to the east is dramatic and uplifting. There is garden around the hut. The 20 metre lawn slopes gently towards a surrounding hedge with the cliff edge beyond and sea below. Parking is by the main house about 20 metres away. Access is down a short flight of steps from the parking area, along a sloping, slate pathway across the lawn, then steps lead up to the hut.
The Sheperd's Hut is perfectly situated to explore the best of what South Cornwall has to offer. Just 10 minutes walk away is the quaint harbour of Gorran Haven with a sandy beach and wall for fishing off. Here you can also enjoy local pubs, a few cafes, restaurants and a small shop for essentials. Other great pubs include the Barley Sheaf just up the road in Gorran Churchtown and the Llawnroc Hotel. For the hikers, there are stunning coastal paths traversing most of the South Cornwall coast line. These are easy to pick up from several locations surrounding the hut, my favourite of which is the walk to the historic Dodmans Point. On the way you will pass Vault Beach - one of Cornwall's best kept secrets! This mile long stretch of white sand is the perfect escape from the summer crowds. Other great local beaches include Caerhays beach and castle and the quieter Hemmick. Both can be reached via coastal paths if you are feeling adventurous! For those with transport, the larger fishing village of Mevagissey is well worth a visit. Here you can find ample gift shops with local crafts and produce, pubs serving real ale and lots of great cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Other notable local activities include the stunning Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project.

The delightful and charming village of Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by a missionary named Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters. In a round house there are no corners where the devil can hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection!Veryan is ideally located for exploring the Roseland Peninsula and is only moments from the spectacular Carne Beach or the dramatic coastline around the historic fishing village of Portloe. Nearby is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill where you can relax in a charming valley with a delicious Cornish cream tea.Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Its steep sided valleys has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages".It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, yet it has a really good local pub & hotel. The village itself is only a short drive from the other villages such as St Mawes. The city of Truro is also within a 25 minute drive. The Lugger Hotel in Portloe with its excellent restaurant is only a short drive away and the Ship Inn is also a good place to eat in Portloe. The New Inn at Veryan serves food. There are shops at Veryan and a Londis store at Bessy Beneath. Further pubs, shops & restaurants are also available in Tregony, Ruan Lanihorne, Portscatho & St Mawes.

Mevagissey is a wonderful little Cornish fishing village in South East Cornwall. Ideally located within easy reach of both The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. The tiny seaside village is packed with old Cornish cottages complete with narrow alleyways leading to converted fish cellars offering gift shops, galleries, pubs and cafes. Once a major Pilchard port, now the harbour boasts a smaller fleet, many of which provide sea tours, or boat trips to Fowey situated further up the South coast. The Harbour provides an ideal back drop for a fish and chip supper, followed by a stroll through the town at dusk. With an eight minute drive to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and 30 minutes to the Eden Project, Mevagissey provides a excellent location for the keen gardener.
