Great breakfast and lunch. Beautiful vine-covered verandah for coffee and cake.
Back in the 1950s, Cliffy Hauser’s general store in Daylesford was famous for an extraordinary range of produce, groceries and farm supplies crammed into a rustic timber and corrugated iron building. Fast forward more than 60 years, and the heart and soul of this legendary store have been lovingly…
Great for coffee and cake! A beautiful historic store sit inside or out.
This is one of the most well known cafe's in the area. Step back into the 1950s, with the heart and soul of this legendary store having been lovingly preserved. The old timber shelves are full of local produce, mineral water and preserves, while specialty groceries are chosen from near and far. And…
“Make time for an unforgettable outing to a nationally and internationally renowned gourmet destination. The famous chef-owner Alla Wolf-Tasker AM is credited with pioneering regional Food and Wine Tourism in Australia and making Daylesford a culinary hub. Explore the picturesque Lake Daylesford.”
“Actually a manmade lake created early last century when a mining ravine was flooded, the lake is divided by a bridge and sculptures and historical markers dot the perimeter, which can be walked around in about 40 minutes. There are scenic views, steps down to an old pump house and bandstand (sadly now collapsed) and springs from which you can hand pump various metallic-tasting mineral waters; plus rows of seating near change sheds. You can swim or hire paddleboats in the lake. There are restaurants -- the famed (perhaps overrated) Lakehouse with sumptuous accommodation and the Boathouse, which I can't recommend given its blunt signage (to the tune of "We do not serve 'just coffee'") is so terribly offputting. There was a secondhand bookshop too (also overpriced) but it recently was sold and oops, I haven't been down lately to see if it's been bought out!”
“Mercato means Italian for Market and the owners and chef here pride themselves on providing scrumptious food, delectable wines and impeccable service. They also offer a tapas menu for lunch and afternoons - it's delectable!”
“Great food and coffee with a constant Buzz. Tell them you're a guest at Waterfalls and get a free cup of coffee with your breakfast.”
