It is crazy to think that Spaniards came and built over the prehispanic cities, but that is exactly what happened. Mexico is the merge of two cultures and this place is the best representation on that.

Before the Spaniards demolished it, the Teocalli of Tenochtitlán covered the site where the cathedral now stands, as well as the blocks to its north and east.
