After eating all the tapas you can eat or maybe some more, it’s time to explore another of Madrid's more liveliest squares: La Plaza Mayor. The area and its surrounding streets have everything you can think of and more, my favorite: the cafes with outside seating where you can enjoy a refreshing drink while taking in the panoramic views of the small shops, art galleries, the tourists and locals coming and going and the old but fancy square facades. Tip: If you are visiting Madrid during the holiday season I recommend to spend a few hours exploring the Christmas market that is set up in the middle of the square and then stop by Chocolateria San Gines ( a 100 year old establishment) to enjoy a hot chocolate with churros .

2. Plaza Mayor The Plaza Mayor, located in the heart of the city a few minutes walk from the Puerta del Sol, is another of the essential places to visit in Madrid. This rectangular plaza 129 meters long and 94 wide, is surrounded by buildings and prominent places such as the Arco de Cuchilleros, the Casa de la Panadería, the most important building in the Plaza Mayor and the Statue of Felipe III, a gift from Duke of Florence.

The Plaza Mayor is one of Madrid’s most famous squares. There are plenty of outdoor cafes, bars, and restaurants where you can have a traditional and delicious meal. Whole around the plaza are many historical buildings, Sculpture and listen to the street musician.

The Plaza Mayor is Madrid's main square. It is located right in the centre of the city, just a few minutes walk from the Puerta del Sol. Despite the rather high prices charged by the restaurants and cafés under the arches that skirt the square, it is still a lovely place to sit out, try some good Spanish wine, sample some tasty tapas and watch the passers-by. And since it is located in the historic centre of Madrid, staying in this area is ideal to see the city's sights and monuments.
