This is one of our favorite walking spots. It’s proper Irish countryside that’s a local secret. The walk is through fields with cows and sheep, up a mountain with forest and views of the sea.
You can also rent a bike (kids too) from fat bikes on site for a cross country cycle on several trails.
Start or finish in bak’d cafe where bread and pizzas are baked fresh onsite. Great coffee too!
Go ..you won’t regret it!

This beach is a local secret with a beautiful walk down a lane way to the beach that’s peppered with rock pools. Great for couples, dogs & families.
The Black Castle
This castle ruin stands on a rocky promontory over the sea, at the eastern side of the town. Following the arrival of the Norman’s in 1169 Earl Strongbow was granted the lands along the East Coast. He in turn granted those lands to Baron Maurice Fitzgerald on condition that he build castles for protection.
The Black Castle was constantly under attack from local Chieftains, notably those of the O’Byrne and O’Toole clans and in 1301 they succeeded in totally destroying the castle. There is a fine vantage-point for views over the town and the coast of North Wicklow from the ruins.
You can easily walk to the Black Castle from Wicklow Town Main Street by turning onto the South Quay and walking a short distance past Hopkin’s Hardware and up the hill, you will clearly see the ruins just beyond the large cannons, which are on the grassy area.
Wicklow Gaol is brilliant for a rainy day. There are actors that play out the roles of jailer & prisoners.
This is where prisoners were kept before being shipped off to Australia. & America on prison ships.
Very interesting history.
Not suitable for small kids.

Wicklow Gaol is brilliant for a rainy day. There are actors that play out the roles of jailer & prisoners.
This is where prisoners were kept before being shipped off to Australia. & America on prison ships.
Very interesting history.
