Información sobre la ciudad

One of the most visited towns in Antioquia is Guatapé. Located 75 kilometers from Medellin in the east of the Department, it has a story to tell. In 1970, Guatapé faced a crossroads, when it was announced that part of the municipality should be flooded to build the hydroelectric complex of the Public Companies of Medellín, a dam of energy importance for Colombia. The proximity to the reservoir gives visitors the possibility of practicing water sports, while the forest vegetation that surrounds the town allows activities such as hiking. One of the most important tourist attractions to visit is El Peñón de Guatapé, also known as "La piedra del Peñol". It is a 220-meter-high monolith located between the towns of Guatapé and El Peñol, which has 702 steps to the top. Despite the difficulties involved in relocating the town, this population of just over eight thousand inhabitants has known how to be reborn, making this place one of the most desired for its cobbled streets and hand-painted baseboards

Santa Fe de Antioquia is a Colombian Heritage Town that keeps the most important historical treasures of the colonial and republican period in the department of Antioquia. Located an hour and a half from Medellín, Santa Fe de Antioquia can be reached by land, along the highway that goes to Urabá in Antioquia. It has a warm climate that ranges between 25 and 35°C, where you will be surprised by the vegetation of the city's parks, and the ornamentation of the houses that you see when you walk through its cobbled streets under the blue sky. Recently renovated, Main Park Square Simón Bolívar, located in the historic center of Santa Fe de Antioquia, is the main meeting place for locals. There you will find a pedestrian promenade full of trees and gardens, chairs, lanterns and a beautiful fountain that tells us the story of water management in colonial times. Ten minutes from the urban center of Santa Fe de Antioquia, is the Western Bridge, a beautiful National Monument, emblem of the population and probably its architectural icon. It is 291 meters long over the Cauca River. Designed by the engineer José María Villa in 1887, this suspension bridge brought an economic boom to the region, connecting the population with the rest of the country, allowing the flow of merchandise and passengers to (and from) the sea. With a very particular beauty, this bridge is a work of engineering that you cannot miss.

In August 2013, Oci.Mde opened its doors under chef Laura Londoño and her husband, architect Santiago Arango. She spent eight years working abroad in Europe, Australia, and Asia, including time at L'Astrance in Paris when it had three Michelin stars. Working together, they've realized their vision for a casual, modern restaurant offering slow-cooked foods (the 12-hour braised short ribs in lemon and chili caramel sauce are my favorites).

In Situ is located within Medellin's botanical garden north of the city center. One enters In Situ by crossing a small concrete footbridge over water. I recommend departing through the rear, as it faces an herb garden and the park's lush interior. Inside, you'll find a menu with some of the best food in Medellin, featuring fresh local ingredients and a mix of modern dishes and Colombian favorites. The quality of food, serene setting, and reasonable prices are all reasons to plan for a lunch or dinner at In Situ. It's the perfect place for a date, too.

Conceived as a family business, La Provincia has been evolving with a fresh and creative style that has characterized its cuisine as a fusion of Mediterranean food with an oriental touch.
