The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (the "Gorge Bridge" for locals) is a steel deck arch bridge across the Rio Grande Gorge located 10 miles northwest of town. At 565 feet above the Rio Grande, it is one of the highest bridges in the U.S. Parking facilities on site. Definitely a must-see for first-time visitors (try to go at sunrise or sunset for more dramatic colors). Interesting fact: The bridge has appeared in several films, including Natural Born Killers, Wild Hogs and Terminator Salvation.

Parks & Nature

If you like hiking , try the 5-mile Devisadero Loop Trail and catch beautiful views of Taos from the Devisadero peak (8,304 feet). For folks in decent shape only due to some steep trails. A favorite hike for locals because of its proximity. One of Hugo's favorite places around town for trail running.

The Taos Valley Overlook Trails (close to Lower Taos Canyon) consist of several single track loops, and some two track trails totaling about 16 miles of beginner to intermediate level of difficulty. Locals use the place for mountain biking, running, hiking and horseback riding. Offers stunning views of the Rio Grande Gorge below. Perfect for a nice morning or evening walk for those who want to enjoy amazing Southwest landscapes without a strenuous workout. Our favorite place to hike around Taos. Travel south of Taos on state road 68 (going to Santa Fe) and keep driving for approximately 1.7 miles after you pass the sign for Stakeout Dr on your left. Turn right into a loop-shaped parking lot not too far after you see the brown and white sign with a hiker on it.
