I hate to say it but if I was on death row the fried chicken sandwich and pimento cheese would be my last meal. Everything on the menu is why people come to Asheville these days. Truly exceptional food from someone who has lived in NYC, Philly, San Fran, Vegas, Atlanta, Charleston, and Miami. Also, if you like banana pudding, theirs is next level. Oh and try the Cheerwine and bourbon slushy.

Head chef is an Asheville native who worked up the ranks at Curate and McCrady's in Charleston before helping open Xiao Bao, also in Charleston. Ghan Shan is his second asian restaurant adventure and spectacular. I highly recommend an early arrival on whole fish night.

A truly unique Fairview locals spot. Out in the woods, at the end of a small gravel road, across a one lane bridge is this backyard brewery. A converted garage serves as a small tasting room for the beer brewed onsite. Some patio furniture, a couple fire pits, and corn hole complete the picture. Its a locals gem and the beer is pretty good too!

The GP has beautiful architecture, lots of interesting history and an amazing view. If its cold out, park it in a rocking chair near the gigantic stone fireplace. Winter Holidays are a great, but crowded, time to visit the GP. In any case, a drink on the back patio at sunset is a happy place. Some might suggest its the best view in Asheville.

The GP has beautiful architecture, lots of interesting history and an amazing view. If its cold out, park it in a rocking chair near the gigantic stone fireplace. Winter Holidays are a great, but crowded, time to visit the GP. In any case, a drink on the back patio at sunset is a happy place. Some might suggest its the best view in Asheville.
Because every good good guide book needs at least one dive bar (in my humble estimation). Here is ours. Cheap booze with karaoke and live noise that can alternate between music or a DJ.

Fishable year round but beware kayakers and rafters during the summer months who have no problem ruining your latest, greatest catch. Or if you're there in the summer and fishing isn't your thing, you can book a rafting trip. For fishing, stick to upper portion above power station. Other nearby rivers for trout fishing: East Fork of French Broad, Tuckasegee, and Davidson. All to the west of Asheville.
