orth Kidney beach between Hayle and Carbis Bay is another large, popular, sandy beach backed by dunes and cliffs. It is also popular with Hang Gliders and Para Gliders. Porthkidney beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on the beach all year round. Access to the beach is via a footpath from St Uny Church at Lelant, crossing the golf course and passing under the St Erth to St Ives branchline. In the beautiful living churchyard across the footpath from the church, bluebells, cowslips and primroses blanket the ground in spring. The St Uny Heritage Centre is located in the churchyard and is a great place to stop for tea, coffee and homemade cakes. The Centre also offers a free exhibition of local history and access to reference books about the area. Some books of local interest are for sale and there are a range of donated novels and non fiction books to purchase so if you're off to Porthkidney Beach to relax on the sands and enjoy the stunning view of the Hayle River, Hayle Towans, Godrevy and St Ives, and you want to buy something to read then why not drop in. St Uny Heritage Centre opens in the spring through to the end of October, on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 11am and 4pm.

Godrevy is at the far north-eastern end of three miles of golden sand stretching from Hayle. Owned by the National Trust, it takes the brunt of the Atlantic swell and is one of the more exposed beaches of the North coast. From buckets and spades on sunny summer days to classic rugged Cornish splendour on a stormy winter's day, Godrevy offers the ultimate outdoor experience. The sandy beach at Godrevy is connected to Gwithian beach at lower tides to create an impressive stretch of sand. Remember to check the time of high water. as hundreds of metres of sand all but disappear at high tide so don't get caught out. The beach terminates with a low rocky headland and the famous Godrevy lighthouse (of Virginia Woolfe's To The Lighthouse fame) on an island just off the coast. A cafe, hidden amongst the dunes beside the car park, provides drinks and snacks.. Godrevy is owned and looked after by the National Trust and is able to care and conserve areas like this, thanks to their members, volunteers and donors. Car park free to National Trust members. No overnight camping allowed.

The South West Coast Path is just as good for short walks and gentle strolls as it is for long-distance walking, and we have collated walks from all around the path so you are sure to find one to suit your taste. Most of these are less than 5 miles long – perfect for a half-day walk with family and friends followed by a picnic or pub lunch, but if you are looking for longer walks we have these too.
