Dalby forest is a hub for cycling and walking. It has many facilities including mountain bike hire, Go Ape and a visitors centre. There are lots of fabulous walks including a walk around the unique rock formations, the Bridestones.

About a 40 minute drive from Pickering is Castle Howard set in the Howardian Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house and gardens are stunning and it's perfect for a family day out as it has the most fantastic adventure playground.
The house itself has been used in many film and TV productions, the latest of which was the Netflix series Bridgerton. There's also a good cafe and shop. Check out their website for current events as they often have quite a lot going on: https://www.castlehoward.co.uk/

About a 40 minute drive from Pickering is Castle Howard set in the Howardian Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house and gardens are stunning and it's perfect for a family day out as it has the most fantastic adventure playground.

Not far from the cottage on Eastgate are the ruins of Pickering Castle. Definitely worth a visit if you like a bit of history. Don't miss the church on your way up to the castle as it has some of the best intact medieval wall paintings in the country!

A must visit! This garden is beautiful! I especially enjoy watching the swift’s dip their chests in the water feature. The cafe here is great and serves tasty food offering unique dishes you won’t find anywhere else.

This is a beautiful seaside village with stone cottages tumbling down a steep hill towards the sea. The medieval walled city of York is a must. It’s packed full of history with medieval streets and the magnificent York Minster. There’s a vast array of shops, pubs, cafes, bars and restaurants. Try the Bluebird bakery just off the shambles for great bread and cakes. Go early to avoid disappointment.

Travel back in time to the second world war. Housed in a former prisoner of war camp the huts that made up this camp now have an immersive experience in each one and each with a different theme. Well worth a visit.

Situated at the top of the North York Moors is the small peak of Roseberry Topping. There are loads of fantastic walks and the view from the top is fantastic.

Whether you're into cycling or not this is a good drive out. There's a lovely cafe and the scenery is spectacular. There's also many walks to enjoy although it's lots of hill walking but you can indulge on cake at the cafe afterwards.

Beautiful waterfall near Goathland.
Beautiful beach in the countryside. It does get busy but for those who want a more rural setting than Scarborough this place is great. Dogs allowed too. Don't forget to check tide times.

If you're looking for something a bit different this is perfect. The horses are great and the rides go through spectacular scenery! I ride there myself on a regular basis and it's a really friendly and welcoming stables.
