We're blessed with superb restaurants in this area, here's a list of my favourites. The Owl at Hawnby has just opened (scroll to the bottom of the list) and its top notch for an outdoor socially distanced experience:

Helmsley has around 20 different cafes but this is my absolute favourite. Beautiful food with inspired weekly specials. Its caters especially well for vegetarian/vegan visitors. Open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

A delicatessen for the discerning consumer. Fabulous counter downstairs with a fantastic range of cheeses and an Aladdin's cave for the foodie upstairs.

legendary pub, real fires, beer heaven and large portions of proper pub grub served all day (noon-10pm), with tremendous vistas outside over Rosedale and Farndale. Dogs allowed in the Bar.

A unique tearoom set in the middle of a small holding, you can pet the animals and then head in by the log fire for monster portions and a Yorkshire welcome. Only accessible by foot or bike, its set into one some of the best mountain biking country around.

Pub and restaurant with rooms run by the Banks family who have lived and farmed at Oldstead Grange for generations, and the menu reflects this passion. The emphasis is very much on relaxed dining, there are no airs and graces here. James manages front-of-house while Tommy, his younger brother, is chef. Expect elegant interiors and cosy downstairs bar with that all important log fire, stone flagged floor and Mousey Thompson oak fittings. Renowned for its tasting menu featuring refined classical dishes with innovative twists, there's imaginative vegetarian food too. There's also a burgeoning two-acre kitchen garden, providing vegetables, herbs and fruit for the kitchen.

Newly opened pub. It's our closest pub and they currently have an outdoor food truck serving homemade charcuterie, wood fired pizzas. The service is great and the views are absolutely top-notch. Its about an 1hour30 walk or 20 minute drive. Booking is a must as its a local favourite.

Sightseeing
Discover the North York Moors National Park There's nowhere else on earth quite like the North York Moors National Park. Where else can you experience a landscape where stunning moorland, ancient abbeys and picturesque villages live side by side in such perfect harmony? It's a living, breathing scene that will take your breath away.
This historic fishing town is famed for it's winding streets, traditional Architecture including Whitby Abbey.
There's a steam train available from Pickering which takes you through the world famous North York Moors.

This lovely little fishing village always makes me feel like I'm in Cornwall.
Parking is at the top of the village and you walk down a steep hill lined with lovely shops, cafes and restaurants to beautiful little fishing village and beach.
