This place has one of the best "pastels" in town! A bit pricey, but worth trying. A pastel is a typical fried pastry, typically filled with cheese or meat. Delicious afternoon snack! You also find Pastel stands at street/farmer's markets.

For the best and most legitimate Açaí in town, you must go here! Also, their "Casquinha de caranguejo" (aka crab meat) is worth trying if you're into seafood. If you want a taste of the North of Brazil and its unique tropical fruits, try one of the many sorbets: cupuaçu and graviola are my favorite, but there are many more!

Closest Grocery store. Also, their pizza served right nextdoor is very good and it's cheap!

Drinks & Nightlife

Meeting point for a younger crowd (20-30's). Thursday nights and Sunday late afternoons are big days for this square, where you will see cariocas drinking and mingling the way they prefer: outside!

Another famous meeting point for people ages 20-40 from Friday night on. A more alternative crowd can be seen here, lots of artists and the cute little bandstand usually features music (most often live samba) on weekends.

A good alternative to the Botanical Gardens, if you have already been there and don't want to pay the entrance fee again. This park is smaller and entrance is free of charge. Nice place to get away from the city. It also has a restaurant with a good (and very busy) brunch on weekends.
