Our Village
Authentic Cretan village.
Glass factory – on the edge of the village (past the
cemetery) – you may be able to watch them blowing the
glass. Beautiful glass for sale (lamp shades in the house
are from there). There's a taverna in the grounds.
Taverna in the centre of the village (opposite church) –
good place to eat – nice place to watch the sunset – has
wi-fi
Mini-market (Vorenos) – run by George – he’s very
helpful and you can buy most things there (go early in
the morning for fresh bread)

Good for snorkelling – it’s a stony beach/rocky inlet.
Best to drive there – approx 5 mins) – drive on road
from Plaka and keep on past the turning to our house -
bear left where the road forks (signed to the lighthouse –
‘Pharos’)
There are caves near the cove – park on the flat area
before the road drops down into the cove and walk along
the track until you come to a gate – there are steps down
to the right into a cave.

Banks/cash points
(Actually to the right of this picture, from the bridge over
the river)
Nice sandy beaches with tavernas and play areas for
children
SYNKA supermarket on the outskirts – far side from us,
on the road by the sea to Kalami – we usually get our
‘big’ shop there
‘Koumos’ – take the left turn just past SYNKA – follow
the signs for Koumos – it’s a taverna with lots of
different buildings made from little stones – became an
obsession for the owner – just a bit of fun – nice for a
cooling drink, food and view

Food scene
Good place to have lunch/dinner with quite a few
choices of tavernas/cafes – all good with friendly people
– they all have wi-fi – we sometimes walk there –
perhaps take a torch for the walk back at night. Elpis has
a children's play area.
Good mini-market – you can buy most things
Nice walk through the olive groves down to the coast
