A beautiful crisp clear lake with a settlement at one end that has a small shop, cafe and pub.
If you like fruit then this is the place to go! Roadside stalls sell locally grown fruit. The best time for fruit is December to March although the in winter the pears and apples can be great value.
The town is set near Lake Dunstan which is a man made lake created by the Clyde Dam which produces a large portion of New Zealand’s electricity.
There is some great history in the area too including good mining relics.
Cromwell is approximately a 40 minute drive from Wanaka

A relatively gentle track to ride. You can start at Albert Town and do a loop down to the Red Bridge. Cross the bridge and come up the other side back to Albert Town.

This is a personal favourite place to ride my bike. Fun for everyone. The loop ride takes you through the Kanuka clad Hikuwai Reserve to the Outlet and back to Albert Town.
