The church of Saint John the Theologian at Kaneo (neighborhood in old town) is the most famous and most visited place. The most romantic spot from where the view on the sunset is something you can't explain in words. It is a Macedonian Orthodox church situated on the cliff over Kaneo Beach overlooking Lake Ohrid. The construction date of the church remains unknown but documents detailing the church property suggest that it was built before the year 1447. Archaeologists believe that the church was constructed some time before the rise of the Ottoman Empire very likely in the 13th century. Restoration work in 1964 led to the discovery of frescoes in its dome.

Tsar Samuel's Fortress According to recent excavations by Macedonian archaeologists, it was contended that this fortress was built on the place of an earlier fortification, dated to the 4th century BC, which was built by King Philip II of Macedon. Samoil's Fortresses is a fortress in the old town of Ohrid. The name is after the Tsar Samuel the ruler of the Macedonian empire, at the turn of the 11th century. (you can find it on Google as bulgarian ruler as well as every piece of the Macedonian history, don't be confused, the neighboring countries are changing our history nowadays by their wish=modern racism but that's another story). Today, this historical monument is a major tourist attraction and was heavily restored in 2003 with the addition of entirely new battlements where none had survived.

Prehistoric Museum on Water at the Bay of Bones - Ohrid is located on the eastern coast of Lake Ohrid near the auto camp Gradishte, the Bay of the Bones. From the city of Ohrid the Museum is around 14 km away. Archeologists had discovered a prehistoric site in the lake dating from 1200 and 700 B.C, which spread on over 8.500 m2. Evidences show that theBryges, the oldest tribe in the Balkan region lived in that area. The Museum on Water is a reconstructed settlement/village that existed even before the Roman Empire. In addition, an old Roman military fortification above the Bay of the Bones had been reconstructed too. The fortification is located upon a hill. That was done in order to compare the ancient period with the prehistoric, an incredible journey back in the prehistoric period.

Saint Naum monastery, 29km south of Ohrid, is an imposing sight on a bluff near the Albanian border and a popular day trip from Ohrid. St. Naum was a contemporary of St Kliment, and their monastery an educational centre. The iconostasis inside the church dates to 1711 and the frescoes to the 19th century; The setting on a plateau over Ohrid Lake with Galicica mountain and National Park on the backside are breathtaking. Sandy beaches hem the monastery in on two sides and are some of the best places to swim around Lake Ohrid. It was founded in the 905 by St.Naum, but the present-day church was built in the 16th c. The frescoes of the side chapel were painted in 1806 (they depict the life and miracles of St.Naum). In the first chamber of the church (the entrance hall) look for the fresco of St.Cyril and Methodius and their students including St. Clement and St. Naum. The icon screen was made in 1711 and it is the oldest completely preserved wooden high icon screen in Macedonia. Inside the side chamber, it is popular to get down on your knees over the tomb of St. Naum and try to listen to the heartbeat of this saint`s heart 11 centuries after he died. Around the church look for the peacocks including a rare albino one. Near the monastery there is a chapel with holy water and behind it, a pond formed by the several streams that spring from the sides and some of them from the bottom. *Church of the Holy Archangels (AD 900) was destroyed by the Ottomans in the 15th century and reincarnated as the Church of Sveti Naum when it was rebuilt between the 16th and 17th centuries as a multidomed, Byzantine-style structure on this cliff. Surrounding the core of the complex is a tranquil garden looped by fountains, with roses and peacocks :) and inspiring lake views.

It was built in 200 BC During Roman times, the theater was also used for gladiator fights. However, since the theater was also a site of executions of Christians by the Romans, it rapidly turned to a highly disliked site by the locals. In fact, as a result of this dislike, the theater was abandoned and buried by the locals after the demise of the Roman Empire. This allowed for most of the structure to be well preserved, only to be uncovered accidentally in the 1980s. Namely, during construction work around some of the houses in the area, large stone blocks were showing up. Since the late 1980s, the theater is again a site of public performances, such as plays, concerts, operas, ballet performances. Recently, high-profile cultural performances such as those by the Bolshoi and José Carreras take place each summer as part of the famous "Ohrid Summer Festival" It is located on only 300 meters from our house

The basilica, which is one of the nine basilicas in the city and originates from the 4th-5th century BC, has a pretty preserved floor mosaic with a decorative arrangement that was characteristic for the 4th and 5th century. Particularly significant stands the mosaics field with a donor's inscription that mentions Thomas and John, who probably built the facility. There were also discovered fragments of frescoes in the lower sections of the walls. During the archaeological excavations very significant elements and fragments of the marble architectonic and decorative sculpture were revealed. The site "Manchevci" was partially explored during 2007 when two objects were removed. After the archaeological excavations at this archaeological site in the old urban core of Ohrid, an Early Christian basilica was discovered , more precisely parts of northern and central nave when about 200 m2 were explored. The site is located near the Cathedral of St. Sophia, on the direction to the ancient theater, in a densely populated part of the old city and probably extends under the surrounding houses. This site is on 100 meters from our house
