Where to take the children

This is a great little day out for children ( best suited for 2-10 years) there are plenty of little ride on tractors, cars and bikes for the little ones to ride on and abandon before picking up another. There are farm animals to meet and touch, go karts, a maze and a nice cafe among other things. It's not huge or full of high tech but my grandchildren love it.

This is a beautiful Elizabethan House that is still being restored. The grounds are peaceful and pretty with a fairy and Gruffalo wood walks. There is a play area, nice cafe, artisan workshops and for a small extra cost family archery with tuition. A lovely place to take children and adults of any age and it only costs the car park fee to get in.

This is a pretty and small seaside village that has become a little swamped by surrounding holiday home developments. There is a nice harbour, lots of places to get good icecream and if you drive up the beach road, some nice beaches. There are plenty of amusements for the whole family including a fun fair, amusements, leisure centre, outdoor activity centre, seal sanctuary, boat trips, crazy golf, ten pin bowling, woodland and coastal walks and several pubs that serve good quality fresh food

This is a small lavender farm with a play area, artisan shop, cafe that serves lovely cakes and it has a bull train ride for children. It is a good place to kill a couple of hours and entry is only the cost of the car park.

This is a good quality family hotel. Bar and restaurants are open to the public and the ambience is good but the best thing is the free children's play area around the back which includes a mini zoo, giant chess and for a small extra charge go karts and crazy golf. At Easter and Christmas there is a very popular train trip to a specially constructed fairy tale village which you have to pay for and book in advance but kids love.

Local culture and entertainment

The House of Storytelling This is a bit tricky to find as it is on the road between Craanford and Ballyduff, Wexford beside the Butterfly Equestrian centre, but it is well worth it. The house is a traditional thatched cottage which has not been updated in about 70 years or more. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. people come to play instruments and sing both Traditional and Country songs, tell jokes or a story or dance. It is pretty crowded and sometimes spills out into the yard. There is a stick that gets passed around and if you accept it, you play, sing, joke or tell a story. Everyone present is offered the stick but you don't have to accept it. You can contribute something modern or from your own life, everything is appreciated. It starts at 8pm and goes on to 10pm every first Tuesday of the month except for July and August when it is every Tuesday. Entry is free but if you bring a cake or some biscuits it is a nice gesture and will contribute to the free refreshments you will be offered. The address is Raheen, Ballyduff, Camolin, County Wexford and you can ring David on 00353879832096 if you need directions or more info.
