Almost untouched by war and reconstruction, the mostly stately houses remain in the same condition as when they were built between 1860 and the start of the First World War. Their facades reflect the middle-class confidence of the fin de siècle. Behind the wrought iron fences in the front gardens with leafy chestnut trees, they impress with eagles and battlements and other ornamental details. The urban planning discipline of block construction and its greenery in the internal courtyards and on the streets are worth admiring. This is where the bourgeoisie lived: civil servants, professors, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, rich pensioners. A large number of student inns and taverns are located here, which are worth visiting in the evenings.
