The existing church was built by King Demetre Tavdadebuli (the Self-Sacrificing) between 1278 and 1289, and has been reconstructed many times since.
This is a large building with a great view over the river and to the old town. It's not open for public. It's located close to the Trinity Cathedral Church and you can walk past the presidential palace on the way there.
