Decen Mexican Food (TEX MEX) in a charming location. Nothing fancy. Great place to have lunch along with Margaritas or Coronas. They take walk-ins but sometimes you need to reserve ahead of time.

In general a good cafe, beautifully designed on a quiet square just off Plaza Mayor. They have a good selection of food, beverages and a friendly staff.

Casa Gerardo is a very old tavern / wine cellar in Madrid and has kept faithful to its original concept. You will only find cold dishes here, mainly different varieties of cheese (all of them delicious in their own style), quality pickles and wine. It's a very simple combination but a incredible experience in taste and textures. No sophistication, just good food. With the charm of an almost historic place.

A very good small restaurant (tapas at the front, full plates at the back, but they can be a bit flexible). Seated at a table at the back, we ordered two main plates and one tapa. All very good (paella negra, berenjenas). Service accommodating, attentive, and friendly.

I love the high quality pintxos at Taberna Txakolina, and the fresh beer and wine are a close second. Always busy, it's got a great atmosphere, too, and there are so many other quality tabernas nearby that when you're done you can continue with your own tapeo.

Casa Lucas is on the usual "tapas craw" circuit, on Calle Cava Baja in Madrid. It is a step above usual tapas, with a creative flair. Strongly recommend making reservations so you can have a sit down meal. While the tapas are great, don't overlook the "raciones" - the entrees. Known for its oxtail (rabo de toro) stew made with prunes and pistachios on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. They have a wonderful wine selection as well - reasonably priced.
