As one of Shanghai's most popular bars, Zapata's holds court over the entire Hengshan Lu nightlife scene from their outdoor terrace and multiple venue complex. Usually packed any given night of the week, especially their Wednesday ladies night, crowds groove to commercial rock, pop, and hip-hop hits while bartenders pour tequila shots into the mouths of anyone willing to dance on top of the bar. A Tex-Mex menu in its upstairs Hacienda restaurant rounds out the bar's theme.

"Eason") is a small, cozy, cheap and cheerful Cantonese restaurant. Rather than the extravagant exotica the cuisine of this province is better known for, Yisheng does the more rustic home-style variety. The focus is on simple steamed and stir-fried dishes with fresh ingredients. Clay pot cooking also plays prominently on the menu. Being as small as it is, Yisheng fills up quickly and stays that way for most of the evening. Reservations are strongly recommended.

The pleasant restaurant and bar has moved down the street and doubled it's size with a new spot. The food is a mix of Canadian and South East Asian comfort foods like poutine, shepard's pie, and laksa.

Hello Miss Dong turns out quality, home-cooked Singaporean food every day of the week. The don't do carrot cake, but they have some really good shrimp paste chicken wings and curry chicken. The meat quality is noticeably higher than at other spots around town, and staff are super friendly. On our last visit, a small rescue cat named Mei Mei was hanging out downstairs, curling up on our bags. Warm vibes here. Their Southeast Asian flavors are not quite as strong as say, Food Fusion or Orchard Road, but they make up for it with the homey feeling. Recommended.

Xin Jishi is the spawn of a Shanghainese institution known as Jesse, an Anglicized approximation Jishi. This chain of "new" Jesse restaurants serves a similar menu of Shanghainese classics like red-braised pork, scallion pancakes, and drunken chicken. But the environment lacks the homey lived in feel of its predecessor

La Creperie does indeed serve crepes. From hum-drum Nutella filled dough to the tangy seafood/salad crepe, main courses run the gamut. Some crepes are more successful than others, but the all wood decor, fully bar and English speaking servers make for a fine experience. The owner is not just a Brittany native, but the VP of the Brittany Association -- authenticity is as close you can get thousands of miles from the French coastline.

Pin Chuan is Sichuan cuisine tweaked and toned down a touch for palates unaccustomed to spicy food. It's particularly popular with the expat population.

One of the most popular Chinese chains for locals and foreigners alike, this branch of the Hunan-style restaurant is less crowded than its Maoming Lu chapter, but serves the same spicy dishes. An assortment of fresh juices (delivered in pitchers) are another highlight.

This spiffy Xinjiang resto comes from the same team behind Sailor's Fish & Chips. The decor cleaves to that increasingly popular contemporary-meets-rustic trope. Hard surfaces, exposed duct work in the ceiling, lots of reclaimed wood. It's simple, tasteful. The menu follows suit, comprising several Xinjiang standards like da pan ji and Xinjiang-style pilaf. Lamb, of course, is all over the place, and they do a fair amount of unconventional dishes like wine braised snow pears. Unlike your typical Shanghai Xinjiang joint, though, expect a more hip, upwardly mobile crowd who preferes to drink imported beer with their lamb kebabs.

This place is lovely, one of the best hot chocolate & croissant I have ever tasted. A nice environment to sit and work with your laptop and people watch. Also a great place to come for breakfast with friends!

Most of these propaganda posters were destroyed after Mao's death so even the fact that they have so many of them well preserved is impressive in an of itself. Beyond that the explanations are well translated into English and French and really take you through the history of China, highlighting the different aspects of Chinese life in that time, and also giving you a history of the world through China's eyes. It's really quite amazing. The posters are amazing, featuring talent of lots of different artistic styles based on influences and the time of production

Little known to Shanghai old timers, Tianzifang has transformed itself from legacy residential architectures and factories into an artsy area housing bars, cafes, crafts shops, design studios, galleries and boutiques. It is ardently supported by crowds of yuppies, trend setters, designers and expatriates, who fall for temptation of old Shikumen houses (stone-framed-door houses) and lanes with infinite novelties.

Entrance fee 20 yuan and it worth everything. The authority make this place a museum and show lots of information about Lady Soong. The house of Lady Soong still well preserved and the furniture used still there (no photo allowed in the house). Also there is a nice garden behind the house. A must visit place for history lover.

A very worthwhile visit to the museum-home of an important man. The extended museum building and the home add up to give an impression of the man, his home life and his work, if only but a brief introduction to the impact he had on China and the world beyond. Much of the signage in the museum is only in Chinese, which makes it harder for non-Chinese speakers to completely understand what is being shown. What is important is that the presentation made me want to learn more, to find materials I could read and understand. The preservation of the home and the ambience of the street with its characteristic trees was well done.
