Chef James Campbell has returned home after cooking at some top restaurants. As a result, the Bunyip Hotel in the neighbouring town of Cavendish has one of the best pub kitchens in the State. The accessible bar and restaurant of the famed Royal Mail Hotel. Superb food, hyper-local produce and locally sourced wines. BOOK AHEAD for meals. Walk-ins are for the bar but the bar snacks menu is no meal substitute.

The bakery is a super cute cafe with about half a dozen tables inside. Freshly baked bread, pastries and pies. A great spot for a full breakfast and great coffee. Bread sells out fast.

City/town information
This tiny town sits on the Wannon River. The Settlers Walk along the river is as stunning as it is tranquil. The local cafe also has great sausage rolls.

Home to the Volcano Discovery Centre and the famous Beesting slice made from local honey. Try one at the Penshurst store. The Penshurst Botanic Gardens are also pretty picturesque.

Public Transport to Dunkeld
I often catch public transport to Dunkeld. There's a twice-daily service to and from Melbourne. Catch the Ballarat train from Southern Cross Station and then transfer at Ballarat to the Mt Gambier/Hamilton bus.
