There are many great shops and streets to visit in the Lanes. Fabrica gallery on Duke Street often has some interesting exhibitions running. The Ivy restaurant opposite offers wonderful food.

Britain's largest dry valley, the Devil's Dyke is a stunning place to visit in any weather. There are some great walks around it, and views over Brighton, the South Downs and north over The Weald. You can catch a 77 bus on the other side of Seven Dials, on Dyke Road.

Cuckmere Haven is a wonderful place to visit. Catch a Number 12 bus from Brighton (timetables are online) to Exceat, then walk along the River Cuckmere to the beach. Marvel at the view of the Seven Sisters cliffs - one of Britain's most famous views - or, if you have the legs, climb the cliffs and walk along towards Beachy Head and Birling Gap.

Plenty of quirky shops and atmosphere in Kemptown, especially on St. James's Street. Take in the spectacular architecture of Sussex Square, where Lewis Carroll took inspiration for "Alice in Wonderland".

We love the Seven Dials area of Brighton. There's beautiful architecture around Clifton Terrace and Clifton Hill, and Montpelier Crescent. Interesting shops: Kindly, Berry's antique shop, a cactus shop opposite our house. Red Snapper Thai restaurant is a firm favourite of locals, as well as plenty of good pubs: The Crescent (Clifton Hill), Battle of Trafalgar (Guildford Rd), Good Companions (Dyke Rd) and Shakespeare's Head (Chatham Place).

The architecture of Brunswick Town is unique. Walk around Brunswick Square and Brunswick Terrace, spotting the Blue Plaques commemorating the great and good who lived or stayed here, including Charles Dickens. Good shops along Western Road too.
