Neighborhoods

Wooster square or "Little Italy" has all the vibes of old and new New Haven. Its main landmarks are historic Wooster street (home to the famous apizzerias including Sally's & Pepe's and amazing Italian food and desserts) and Wooster square park, a lovely oasis in the city, ringed by pink cherry blossoms in the Spring. Wooster square is located east of downtown New Haven and is walking distance to downtown restaurants, bars, music and theater. It is also a short walk to the Yale University Campus.

Food scene

A ballsy new addition to the pizza scene on Wooster street, Zeneli's is a family owned restaurant that serves Naples style pizza and pasta. Ingredients are wonderfully fresh, service is great, owners are friendly and it has a good vibe.

Olmo Bagelry. These are the best bagels in the City, add bacon/eggs/sausage etc. for an amazing breakfast or brunch. Order ahead on the weekends as the lines can get long.

Sightseeing

Named for one of the original nine squares that New Haven was built around, the Ninth square historic district is undergoing a renaissance of sorts. Tucked away from the buzz of downtown on Orange street, with a mixture of bars, restaurants and local shops, it is worth a trip. Some favorites in Ninth square include Elm City Games, Somos Handcrafted Arepas (yum!) and Bark & Vine Indoor plant shop.

Public beach in New Haven with antique carousel, great splash pad for kids. Best time to go (in my opinion) is early evening, after 6pm, fewer people and a fantastic sunset across the Long Island sound. There is a charge for non-residents ($30/car) or you can take the City Bus 206 directly from Chapel street to Lighthouse point or Uber/Lyft.
