York has a myriad of attractions for the visitor and is only 7 miles away. A starting point is the York Minster a vast cathedral dating from 1250 ad, Earlier than this Emperor Constantine a founder of the Christian faith was crowned here in 306ad.
Walking either along the river and back to the millennium bridge and also a walk around the medieval walls is recommended for orientation.
The main attractions are:- Cliffords' Tower, The Castle museum, Yorvik Viking centre, the National Railway museum, Yorkshire museum, the Art Gallery and many more

Whitby is the home town of Captain Cook and was also home to a whaling fleet. More famously Brian Stoker wrote his novel her about Dracula. A must visit is the Magpie café as recommended by Rick Stein.

Newton on Ouse is excellent for walking both along the river and also around the grounds of Beningborough hall. We have two excellent pubs and eateries in the village. The Dawney Arms a gastro pub sits by the river and bookings are essential. The Blacksmiths Arms across the road has good home cooking and a good atmosphere. For a treat the village farm shop and café is good for a break on a walk or Linton Lock house with food by Wendy.
