The Shell Grotto is an ornate subterranean passageway shell grotto in Margate, Kent. Almost all the surface area of the walls and roof is covered in mosaics created entirely of seashells, totalling about 2,000 square feet of mosaic, or 4.6 million shells.

Quirky local history museum in Old Town. At £2 entry it’s definitely worth a visit. And you’re in for a treat if museum grandee Ian is around and you get a personal tour!
