Bairros

Great atmosphere for a gourmet meal or a lovely brunch at praça das flores; many beautiful designer stores (e.g. at embaixada, and a street market on the weekend); LGBTQ+ friendly nightlife mostly takes place in this neighbourhood, with great bars and clubs for long nights out.

Quiet neighbourhood, with the Gulbenkian Foundation as an epicenter for art and a few events. Gulbenkian as a foundation for the arts supports a few events every week and has a permanent exhibition as well as a temporary one, usually contemporary art. It has a beautiful quiet garden, carefully designed, a great cafeteria and a tea house. For architecture lovers it is trully an afternoon well spent.

Little viewpoint garden with a big fountain downstairs that doubles as an urban beach in the summer. Bring your breakfast as a picnic or a bottle and watch the sunset?

Historical center of lisbon, must-see. Walk into Brasileira to see what a coffee shop looked like in the 19th century. Sit with Fernando Pessoa's statue and drink your "bica" (what lisboners call an espresso). Eat a chocolate croissant at Benárd, another historical café. Have a typical conventual sweet from Alcôa. Enter 3 churches within 200m radius. see the ruins of Carmo. Best ice-cream is at Santini. Get a bifana for lunch and sit at largo do carmo eating it and people watching. Then walk from there to the top of the elevator santa justa and see the view without paying its ticket!

because riding on of these lifts is a Lisbon must, and this one is usually empty enough that you don't have to plan ahead! enjoy !

very quiet and still a well kept secret, this viewpoint doesn't face west so it's not ideal for sunset watching, but is great for having a snack and rest a bit. you can see the Sé and the east of the river, and listen to the peacocks in the castle.

Cena gastronómica

A nice little typical restaurant with big portions of codfish and other traditional portuguese dishes. Everything is rich in olive oil, garlic and authenticness. It is not expensive if you are sharing a portion (some of them easily serve 4 people) but if you're drinking wine and trying lots of dishes you will leave the restaurant with a bag to take home, a heavy stomach and a lighter wallet! There are two of these, one is close to our home and bigger, but this one is the original and more picturesque. Food is equally amazing in both. Make a reservation beforehand, in either.
