WHAT: the Lavvu Arctic Camp, a lively experience in a lively community in the region of Finnmark, in Norway, 400 km north of the Arctic Circle.
HOW: The camp. Three small Lavvu, made with organic cotton, heated by high efficiency stoves, reindeer skins and a big one for cooking and socializing around a bonfire.
Local food from the local farmers and herders, fish, zero waste, composting toilets and a polar greenhouse to produce our own vegetables. And a wooden cabin for a healthy breakfast.
The Lavvu Arctic Camp is located in a beautiful pine and birch forest. You can reach the camp walking 50 mt. Three tents, the Lavvu, the tipi like Sami tent used in the Arctic for more than 8000 years, 3 meter diameter and 260 cm high, will wellcome you. Inside the tent you will find a wood burning stove, two bed made like the old Sami tradition, birch branches under reindeer skins, and Fjällräven-26 sleeping bags. We provide also the liners. They are the best bedding for this weather keeping you warm even at -20 Celsius degrees. You can make your tea with the included stove boiler.
In the hytte, the wooden cabin, we will share a super healthy breakfast with local wild salmon, or local organic cheese and milk and eggs, locally baked bread, and more.
In the bigger Lavvu tent, 4 mt diameter, we will socialize in the evening, waiting for the Northern Lights.
You can relax in the sauna and hot shower room. The water will be made by you, melting snow on the stove. Then a jump in the snow will cool your body. In the warm and relax room you will take your time to recover from an incredible free ride run, sea to summit, or sleddogging, or just skiing or snowshoeing in the woods.
A composting toilet, not heated, but with a view, will make you test your comfort zone. Normally, funny to say, it is one of the most enjoyed experiences at the LAC!
Magic Forrests, many birds, eagles, Arctic foxes, elks, reindeers in the plateau, and the fjords.. salmons, orcas, whales..difficult to describe with words.. and a lots of wonderful huskies. These are our neighbors!
Also we have one of the biggest glaciers in Norway. It is a winter paradise. So wild and beautiful. The last real wilderness of Europe.
Langfjordbotn is a little sparse community with nice people coming from all over the world. About 70 persons, and 200 dogs. To say nothing about the thousands reindeers, difficult to see in winter because their are high in the Finnmarksvidda plateau.
Around the Camp just trees, but 15 minutes easily skiing down or walking, to the fjord we have a wonderful family run Cafe and restaurant, serving only local and organic food, selected and prepared with love by Randi Karlstrøm, the soul and hearth of the local community, where you can meet locals and nice persons from all around the planet . Not to be missed! And then Parken, a wonderful farm where we get our organic super cheese, milk and eggs, with the famous Parkengårdhusky Husky Kennel, run by Arne Karlstrøm and Marianne Skjøthaug, and family the most famous mushers family in Scandinavia.
