Misty Mountain Hut - Ruapehu

Misty Mountain Hut-Ruapehu is located in the sleepy little village of Rangataua, 5 minutes distance to Mountain road going up to the Turoa skifield and Ohakune. The 1 bedroom colonial villa has a beautiful view of the mountain. Unlimited wifi and a new firebox with plenty of firewood and a heat pump ensure you are warm in winter. My favourite time here is summer for amazing walks/cycling up mountains to enjoy majestic views. Misty Mountain Hut supports local staff by paying $40/hr for cleaning.

Kawakawa Hut

A small but special little place tucked neatly between rolling hills. Kawakawa Hut provides a simple but comfy getaway for two in a beautiful countryside. Close by lies the vegetable garden, and friendly cows graze just over the fence. Further out over surrounding farmland you can see Tongariros snow capped mountains in the distance, so sit back and enjoy. The mighty Tongariro River with its world famous trout fishing pools is at the end of the road, the Turangi township is a 5 min drive or a beautiful walk past the river and the Whakapapa ski field and Tongariro crossing are only 40mins away.

Kosbys Cottage, Tongariro provides excellent value for money, offering ample space for families (children over 2 years old) or small groups of friends. A snug retreat during winter, thanks to a very efficient wood-burner (there is no heat pump). The spacious couch is perfect for unwinding, while the well-equipped kitchen, resembling that of a caterer’s, includes an espresso machine and opens out onto a charming patio area with a barbecue, herb garden, and stunning vistas.
