お部屋の紹介

スペース

Charming, spacious (1800 square feet), and comfortable, 7-room prewar apartment, in heart of prestigious and exclusive Carnegie Hill at 91st and Madison, one block from Central Park and just blocks from the city's major museums (Metropolitan, Guggenheim, Cooper Hewitt on my block): fully furnished, high ceilings, big windows on both Madison and 91st with lots of light (corner apartment). Nice to relax in after a busy day in the city.

Every room has more than one entrance for feeling of spaciousness and flow, working fireplaces, lots of antiques and art, color and rich character ("shabby chic" ).

Large, eat-in, sunny kitchen, fully stocked. Guests stay in a two-room den with full-sized pullout couch and doors for privacy serving as the second informal bedroom. An air mattress is available if needed. One bathroom, small and un-renovated.

Fully stocked (I have lived here for many years.)

Elevator, no doorman, third floor, well-worn building from turn of last century.

Internet access, wireless. Laundry in basement. Pets welcome.

Very safe neighborhood: private security patrols and video cameras on the block (Russian consulate across the street, two private schools, and a museum), plus nearby observant doorman.

Easy access via bus (one block) and subway (seven blocks) to everywhere in Manhattan.

Quiet at night, One block to the park and easy to get to anywhere from here. One of the most affluent areas in the city.

移動の足

If you have an iPhone, use their GPS for local travel on subways and buses: enter the destination address, and it gives you exact directions.

The nearest subway stops are at 86th and Lexington, and 96th and Lexington (seven blocks are about a six minute walk). 86th has both the express and local subway vs. 96th which has the local only. Lexington Avenue is two blocks away: Madison/Park/Lexington.

The bus stop is at Fifth Avenue between 91st/92nd (half a block away) where the 1, 2, 3, or 4 stop: all go down Fifth Avenue but go different ways below 40th street. There are maps at the bus stop that show you the route of each bus. You need a metro card (get at the subway station only) or $2.75 in coins, no paper cash or credit cards.

Cabs are usually easy to get at the corner of Madison and 91st, or at Fifth and 91st, depending on the time of day, and they accept credit and debit cards. Uber is available everywhere.

Parking:
Use the ap BestParking to find the many garages in the area: it gives addresses, prices, and much more.

You can park on the street, but pay attention to the signs, and you may have to drive around a bit. Expect nicks on your bumper from careless parkers.

Location location location! An entrance to Central Park is just around the corner. Museums right next door. The apartment is great. I especially love that sunlight fills the breakfast area every morning, where you can sit down to eat and see Madison Ave right outside your window. That really sets you up in a good mood for the entire day. Barbara is a wonderful host, super fast communication. Definitely recommend!

Barbara's place was absolutely wonderful! Great location, comfortableness, & antique interior. The house was only a block away from the central park and a 10 min walk to the MET. Everything was neat, cozy, and full of character! It felt like we were staying at a museum. If you could appreciate a historical apartment with a bit of dust, lots of books, squeaky floor, and comfy armchairs and beds, this place is a must.

My family and I had a great stay in NY at Barbara's. There were 4 of us, and her place worked out perfectly. The apartment is extremely well located (close to a number of key museums and the park). Also, Barbara was professional and helpful in all of her communications with us. This was our first time using airbnb, and we had a very positive experience.

I started out as a journalist many moons ago, switched to the business side of magazine publishing (e.g., ad sales at Sports Illustrated), then left publishing for Wall Street after graduating business school, where I have been and am a portfolio manager and private wealth manager.
I have a delightfully mischievous black labrador retriever named Bonnie (she is not at the apartment), and love to play sports (I was on the United States Field Hockey Team as well as the United States Lacrosse Team. For you Brits, I played with the US Field Hockey Team against England in Wembley Stadium back in the last century, and for many years, we held the Guinness Book of World Records for biggest live audience to view a women's sports game: some 70,000+!)
I also love to travel, and delight in telling what China was like in 1984, when I landed in the Beijing airport with a total of one other plane in the entire airport, and one old wooden hanger with faded Mao Tse Tung murals still on the wall. I flew China Air, which I only learned afterwards, had the worst safety record in the world. Indeed, they handed us hand fans when we boarded because the ventilation wasn't working. My, how things have changed.

I also love to write -- mostly issue-related -- and am involved in various nonprofits, from theater to education to Outward Bound. I am currently on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of a major University as well.

Ah, life.
