Come stay in the oldest house in Asheville. The original owner built it as a farm house in the 1840's. Five bedrooms and the common spaces in this 4200 sf house are perfect for groups or families to have fun. Restoration began in the 90's and is now complete.

There are several porches and a courtyard along with a large dining room off the kitchen. A huge parlor where the first indoor catholic services were held.

A good innkeeper allows guests their space to make themselves at home while being available for whatever comes up. We do love to talk about the history of the house and what's happening downtown.

The Montford district has some of the most beautiful architecture in the state but still retains the family neighborhood feel. It's a quiet, serene setting beside the energy of downtown.

The center of downtown is a 10 minute walk. We are directly off the 240 interchange that connects you to everything else Asheville. Uber is here. Short drives to Biltmore Estate and Blue Ridge Parkway.

Well groomed, well behaved pets are welcome ! Rules and pet fees apply. Contact the inn for details.

Be respectful and safe. Make yourselves at home and have fun. Smoke on the porches or in the courtyard.

This house was absolutely perfect for our girls weekend! Thank you to Scott for being such a gracious host!

I booked the Rankin House Inn for a long weekend for my sister's bachelorette weekend. We had ten girls and the 6 bedrooms fit us comfortably. We chose to stay at an Airbnb versus a hotel because we were more interested in spending some quality time together and staying in one night. The house was perfect for us. There was ample parking for our 4 cars when we arrived and the grocery store was a 3 min drive away. We cooked dinner one night and everything in kitchen worked great. Basic dishes and amenities like paper towel and dish soap provided. Scott was very helpful in answering my questions leading up to our stay and was there when we arrived to give us a tour and provide us with necessary contact information should we need any help that weekend (which we didn't). When we out to dinner and drinks the second night, we used Uber and were down town in 5min. In nice weather you could walk to downtown. It's not far, but not a scenic walk and with a larger group or cold weather, a cab is cheap and probably easier. The house is very historic and full of interesting things to look at which I appreciated. Old homes often struggle with heating/cooling, but we were comfortable during our stay and plenty of considerations have been taken to keep it comfortable during all seasons (working thermostat, fans, space heaters, etc). There were also towels, robes and coffee provided! I found it to be the best of both worlds...the amenities of a hotel, with the space and freedom of an Airbnb/vacation rental. It was a very seamless stay from start to finish. I would stay there again.

11 of us had the Rankin Inn to ourselves and it was just perfect. Ella and Scott were perfect hosts and catered to our every needs. Our first night we even forgot about one of the bedrooms and Ella reminded us about it. They even left us food for breakfast. This is a great place to stay!

Our stay at the Rankin Inn was wonderful! Scott was there to great us when we arrived and made sure that anything we needed over the weekend was taken care of. He was kind enough to leave snacks, bottled water, wine and beer for us which was definitely a bonus! The Inn itself was beautiful and had plenty of space for our group of 11. We loved the personal touches like photos of the home pre-renovation and all of the books and brochures available to help us navigate Asheville. It was about a $5 uber to downtown Asheville extremely easy to get to off of the highway. Overall I would definitely recommend this home during a stay in Asheville, especially if you have a large group and will be renting out the entire space!

We stayed for a bachelor weekend. I have a unique situation being a woman and also the best man! I looked at other reviews and decided to take a chance and I promise you will not be disappointed. The house is absolutely beautiful, the rooms are huge and you have plenty of space, so you don't feel like you're trapped in a closet. Scott is a great host too. We had ten people total so having room to spread out was great. It's less than half a mile from downtown, which was perfect for us. We spent the weekend traveling between breweries and never felt like we needed a car. The location of Scott's house is fantastic for all walking needs. I would absolutely recommended it for a group of people and even for small groups. I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else in Asheville. He even made breakfast on both days! He never ran out of food and he's a wonderful cook. He even had beer for us on arrival, and he was helpful with our group's arrival. We were coming from all over the country so we had crazy times of coming in but he was there with a smile for each of us. I cannot say enough how much I loved staying there in Asheville. I would recommend it to families, large groups, small groups, couples, ANYONE! Thanks again for the wonderful weekend Scott!

This was a great experience top to bottom. Perfect home to rent for 8 guys as we each had our own sleeping space. Great location in walking distance to downtown and just about everywhere we wanted to go. We will likely be booking again for next October and each year after. Thanks Scott!
Thanks for coming here. You are very welcome here any time.

On a 5 star scale, if I could give Scott and the Rankin House 6 stars...I would give them 7. This was the best experience myself and nine other guests could have imagined. Everything was so beautiful and very clean. Every room had its own unique feeling. It was very easy to work with Scott. We really appreciated the extremely close proximity to downtown Asheville. Less than a 10 minute walk. We could not have driven, found a parking spot and then walked from that parking spot to a bar downtown faster than having the convenience of walking out the door and directly to the bar. All 10 of us who stayed at the house loved it and would gladly stay again. It was very nice having lots of complimentary snacks and drinks provided. Along with the plentiful amount of breakfast food. Sadly we did have to checkout but it was extremely painless as no cleaning of any kind was required. Next time I need a place to stay in Asheville I now have a very easy choice.

I helped Fred open Rankin House after he completed the renovations on this incredible place. I love this job along with music, photography, and another home I'm renovating for vacation rentals. I like hanging in the background, ready to help you with what you need for a comfortable stay.
