Ripon is 14 miles away with Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Gardens, which are both National Trust sites. While Pateley Bridge with Brimham Rocks, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is 16 miles, or further afield the historic city of York is 40 miles away.
For a day with a difference visit the Forbidden Corner, which is sure to amuse all ages, 11 miles, and the market town of Masham, 4 miles, has a small selection of country shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Black Sheep and Theakstons breweries. For the discerning diner try the local pub at East Witton, 3 miles away, which is well worth a visit. There are many and varied walks in the area, one of which, is the peaceful parkland of Jervaulx Abbey.
