Mountain Home is in the National Register of Historic Places, and the Virginia Landmarks Register. The main house was built by Samuel Gardner, a successful farmer, known for raising prized horses. Samuel Gardner and his first wife Sarah had 3 daughters, the second oldest of which was Rebecca who married into the Waller family and inherited Mountain Home. The home stayed in the Gardner-Waller family for 140 years before being sold. It passed through 2 other owners before Lisa and Scott Jenkins bought it in 2012 and restored it to be used as a B&B.
We also operate a guest house called the Cabbin with additional listings on AirBnB.
For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" and Main House, look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal.
ゲストの立ち入り範囲
Other areas our guests can access include the main parlor, sun room, lower porch, upper porch, patio, and dining room.
その他の特記事項
If you are hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT), or just travelling light, you'll find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, linens, blankets and towels, shampoo, creme rinse and soap, hair dryer, shaver, loaner clothes, laundry, WiFi, shuttles into town, breakfast, etc.
During the summer months, when they are open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Ask us about the swimming hole, waterfalls and nearby hikes and getting out on the river. Wineries, a meadery, a brewery and fine dining are just down the road.

We love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk in either direction. There are 6 buildings on the property including a "Cabbin", chicken coop and sheep shed which we are also going to repair and restore. We are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home".
Mountain Home's 3+ acres are located just 120 steps off the Appalachian Trail on Route 522 (Remount Road), next door to the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI), down the road from Chester Gap Cellars and Rappahanock Cellars, around the corner from the 4-H Regional Center, and just 4 miles from wonderful restaurants, a cinema, bowling and pubs in Front Royal. We are surrounded by trees, but are easily accessed from the road.

After Scott completed his AT thru-hike in 2012, we decided it would be really cool to support hikers at our own place on the Appalachian Trail. Transforming an 1847 farm house into a viable B&B has its challenges, but with faith, hope and persistence, we truly think anything is possible. Lisa ("Anything") and Scott ("Possible")

We are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. We greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, get their breakfast orders, provide hiking, and local activity suggestions. If needed, we shuttle them to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services. We also prepare and serve a hearty breakfast in the morning. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have plenty of books and outdoor resources in the Cabbin and Main House for our guests.
