I'm sorry that you were not pleased with the cottage. To be fair, however the photos taken of the interior were taken on a sunny day - you arrived and stayed during a hurricane with lots of rain and wind - so under those circumstances most homes would not be bright, sunny and cheery. This is the first time any guests have complained about the atmosphere or that the photos were not accurate. Please see the other reviews. When I arrived to do check-out of your group, most of the curtains in the house were pulled shut - including the blackout curtains in the bedrooms which will make the rooms much darker - they are meant to so guests can sleep better. To clarify, the old cabinet doors and peeling paint you describe are actually done that way on purpose. A year ago, they were newly painted and then "distressed" to go with the cottage decor and furniture. The home has had an overhaul with the specific cottage "shabby chic" look in mind. I apologize for the 2 roaches, again extreme weather conditions, hurricane and flooding in the region and staying in an older home in the South may have something to do with it. Even though every room has several light sources and cosy lamps, I will add more light bulbs to the chandelier and ceiling fans to give more light before the next guests arrive. Thank you for that suggestion. All in all, considering the very reasonable price we charge especially when it is a large group like your family of 7 adults, we try to make it as comfortable as possible for our guests, but we cannot please everyone. I suggest with your specific taste and expectations, in the future a hotel would better suited for your needs, not an airbnb home.
