I was initially encouraged by the speed with which the host responded to my inquiries, and the seemingly detailed information provided, which indicated a check-in time of 3 PM. I arrived at 3:30, and the room was not ready; the bed was still being made. I was not able to get the keys or enter the room until 4. I immediately noticed a number of problems with the room. First of all, there was no A/C, despite the fact that the listing boasted it; there were in fact no environmental controls of any kind, not even a fan, and the windows could not be opened (they were painted shut). Fortunately the weather was cool so the room remained relatively comfortable during my stay. Second, it is true that the room has its own private entrance from outside. However, what was not stated was that there is no access to the rest of the house from the room; in other words, to access the bathroom or kitchen or any other amenities, I had to leave the room, go outside onto the porch, and enter the "main" house through another entrance. Because the room's doorknob was old and non-functional, the door was secured only by a deadbolt, which meant that simply going to the bathroom involved going outdoors, bolting the door (which was only a few steps from the sidewalk), entering a code to enter the main house, and then going through the process again in reverse. I should also note that there is, in fact, a door in the room that leads into the main house; however, this door apparently leads into an adjoining guest room and is locked from the opposite side, meaning that there is no apparent way to ensure that a guest staying in that room won't enter the room without permission. The room, which is extremely small, contains nothing aside from a double bed (which occupies the vast majority of the floor space--there is a two-foot gap on one side of the bed and perhaps four feet between the foot of the bed and the door), a trash/recycling bin, some sort of valet for hanging clothing, and a laundry basket. There are no other surfaces available--no shelves, tables, ledges--to put items on. A power strip is dangling from mid-wall at the foot of the bed; this is the only electrical power source. Finally I should note that check-out, which was supposed to be at 11 AM, was unpleasant. The host (or his handyman) randomly banged on my door at 10:30 AM with no explanation; he then started messaging me at around 10:45 AM via Airbnb asking if I'd left, and reminding me that check-out was at "11 or before." I left the room at precisely 11 AM, despite the fact that my check-in had been delayed an hour beyond the promised check-in time. Overall I cannot recommend this accommodation.
