Welcome to the Alpine Hut!
This Airbnb is on the first floor of an 1890's home in the Mexican War Streets. Recently redone, you have access to your own room, bathroom and porch, as well as your own private entry. We have a drink cooler and coffee area for your use, as well as typical toiletries and extra blankets and towels. Parking is included.
We welcome everyone into our home, including those with furry friends.
Our Airbnb is a private suite in our 1890's home, located in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood of Pittsburgh! In our opinion the Northside is the best neighborhood in Pittsburgh, and we'd love to show you why. With this Airbnb, you get your own room, bathroom and porch, as well as your own entry.
We are blocks away from the Mattress Factory and Randyland, and our neighborhood offers plenty of delicious restaurants, a brewery, as well as the city's oldest park and the National Aviary. We're close to downtown (1.5 miles) the stadiums (1.2 miles) and major highways (less than 1 mile), making this room is perfect for all kinds of travelers. Everything is easily accessed by car, bike, or walking; we have parking on the premises and a bike share is a few blocks away!
Note: we have two cats and a dog roaming around our areas of the house. They're more than friendly, but we also keep them separate from the Airbnb space.
You have free reign in the entire Airbnb, which is on our first floor. You can also have access to our living spaces, which include our living room, kitchen, and a second porch, complete with grill and outdoor furniture. We have a back yard, which guests can use at their leisure.
That's up to you! We've travelled all over the States and Europe using Airbnbs, and some of our favorite experiences were when we went out for drinks with our hosts or visited with them over dinner. We'd love to hang out if the vibe is right, otherwise we can leave you alone. We'll happily share everything we know about the city with you, but we also have plenty of materials for you to peruse on your own.
The private entry to this Airbnb is through our backyard. You will have access to our parking pad through an alley, which can be tight at times. Otherwise there is free parking on the street.
If you come through the back door there is a flight of steps you will have to climb.
Please turn off all lights when you leave the Airbnb (unless it's dark and you need the outside light to see upon your return).
Unless discussed prior to arrival, check out is 11am. A fee of $20 per half hour will be charged after that time.
We're Ryan and Susan, a couple from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although we're originally from the Steel City, we've spent time living in Seattle, WA as well as in Europe, travelling to over a dozen countries. Exploring new places (and eating all the delicious local food options) is our favorite passion.
We are avid hikers and campers; we love being outdoors! On weekends we can be found biking around the city or going to Riverhounds games. Ryan loves to bake bread and I enjoy cooking new dishes (if you stay with us be forewarned, we might ask you to taste test new recipes). Since moving back to Pittsburgh we've been really enjoying the bustling brewery scene; while we love to be active we also enjoy going out and playing games with a glass of beer. We've recently bought an 1890's home in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood in Pittsburgh; adventures in old home ownership have been exciting to say the least.
When travelling, we seek out the locals and ask them what we should do. It is so easy to stay on a resort or book a tour of the place you're going. But we subscribe to the idea of really getting to know the places we travel and making memories that will last us a long time. There is much more to the world than what you can possible learn online!
We hope to introduce you to the Pittsburgh we know and love, as well as get to know you and your city!
