My wife and I have been traveling, both separately and together, for many years. We've been using Airbnb for almost three years and though this was a solo overnight trip for me, I can say that it has been one of my favorite home stays ever, full of the magic that makes AirBnb such a special way to travel--indeed almost magical.
First and foremost, Jean's mother "Imo", or in English "Auntie", as she asked me to refer to her is a lady whose warmth and kindness shone through from the moment I met her. Her home, though small--as described--is just as you might imagine your grandmother's home to be. It has been recently remodeled but isn't pristine in a stuffy way; rather its pristine because Imo is neat and meticulous without being fussy.
The shared bathroom was so nice I just wanted to stay in there longer. The shower was warm, with plenty of pressure, and comes from straight overhead, like standing in a warm, steady rain, with comfortable textured tile under your feet and, again, Imo's nice decorating touches and excellent linens all tidily arranged such that I almost felt as if I was in a hotel.
The bed was excellent and comfortable, the room totally quiet at night and the shared living room space truly a relaxing place to sit and visit. Though I doubt that Jean will be able to come from an hour away to greet every guest who stays with her mom, she did this time and she is truly a delight. She was also always available and responded very quickly when I had questions, even before arriving at her mother's home.
Finally, the location offers easy access (ten minute walks) to the National Museum, a megalithic and magnificent structure with a collection of over 20,000 artifacts, to a huge park about three square miles, and to a lovely neighborhood with many Japanese restaurants due to the large number of Japanese expats living nearby, again, within a ten minute walk of her place.
Yes, I WILL most definitely be back and feel I've made friends for life. This happens only rarely. If you don't demand a great deal of space I can't imagine that you wouldn't be delighted with your stay with Imo.
Even though I know I am only her second guest, I'm surprised I'm the first to review this place. I'm certain I won't be the last!!
