This house is a beautiful old townhouse, renovated to preserve its rusticity. Bright and cozy, it provides a cool respite during the hotter months. There is a interior garden where you can relax with your morning coffee or a good book . Overall, it is an ideal place to stay if you want to stay in a real village with excellent options for walking, cicling o riding a horse.
The house features a cozy, rustic kitchen with an oven and electric cooktop, refrigerator with a small freezer, juicer, washing machine, and a breakfast table. AVILA
Ávila is a medieval city in the province of Castile-Léon in western Spain, about 113 Kms. northwest of Madrid, and 26 kms. from Villacastín. Founded in the 11th century to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors, Ávila has a magnificently well-preserved city wall, a historic cathedral, a number of Romanesque churches, and an authentic medieval atmosphere.
For all these reasons, the entire Old Town of Ávila has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. For pilgrims, the city of Ávila is important because of its association with the great mystic and reformer St. Teresa de Jesus, better known as St. Teresa of Ávila.
Teresa was a 16th-century Carmelite nun who reformed her order, had many ecstatic visions, and wrote several books. She is the female patron saint of Spain and was the first woman to be named a Doctor of the Church.
Ávila contains two main shrines honoring St. Teresa, along with a few more sites associated with the saint. The primary shrine is the Convento de Santa Teresa (Convent of St. Teresa), a convent contains her relics, and the second is the Monasterio de la Encarnacion, where St. Teresa lived and where her cell can be visited.
The old city in an excellent place for making a personal tapas route. Many bars offer free tapa with a beer o a wine. Torreznos, morcilla, picadillo, tortilla de patatas are very popular, but the “revolconas potatoes” are the most popular one.

SEGOVIA
Segovia is a Spanish city of about 65,000 people in the Castile-Leon province of Spain, about an hour north of Madrid and 20 minutes from Villacastin. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old city of Segovia is spectacularly situated atop a long, narrow promontory. It is a perfect place for parking the car and walking up and down in the narrow streets.

It contains a wealth of monuments, including a cathedral, a magnificent ancient Roman aqueduct, and the beautiful fairy-tale spires of the Alcázar, or castle-palace, that towers over the countryside below. Scattered about the city are a half a dozen Romanesque churches of great interest, and a church that was once a synagogue.
Owing to these famous monuments, Segovia is a very popular tourist destination. It is a must-see city for anyone interested in architecture, history, or religion. And its monuments aside, Segovia is a scenic place, with mountains as a backdrop to its honey-hued, red-roofed churches and buildings.

SAN LORENZO DE EL ESCORIAL (Madrid)
The Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Spanish: Monasterio y Sitio de El Escorial en Madrid), commonly known as El Escorial (Spanish pronunciation: [el eskoˈɾi̯al]), was a historical residence of the King of Spain, in the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, about 45 kilometres northwest of the capital, Madrid, in Spain, and 50 kms. from our house.

It is one of the Spanish royal sites and has functioned as a monastery, basilica, royal palace, pantheon, library, museum, university, school and hospital. It is situated 2.06 km (1.28 mi) up the valley (4.1 km [2.5 mi] road distance) from the town of El Escorial.

El Escorial comprises two architectural complexes of great historical and cultural significance: the royal monastery itself and La Granjilla de La Fresneda, a royal hunting lodge and monastic retreat about five kilometres away. These sites have a dual nature; that is to say, during the 16th and 17th centuries, they were places in which the power of the Spanish monarchy and the ecclesiastical predominance of the Roman Catholic religion in Spain found a common architectural manifestation.
Philip II of Spain, reacting to the changes of the 16th century, dedicated much of his lengthy reign (de 1556 a 1598) and much of his seemingly inexhaustible supply of New World gold to stemming the tide. His protracted efforts were, in the long run, partly successful; however, the same impulse had a much more benign expression thirty years earlier in Philip's decision to build the complex at El Escorial.
Philip engaged the Spanish architect, Juan Bautista de Toledo, to be his collaborator in the design of El Escorial. Philip II appointed him architect-royal in 1559, and together they designed El Escorial as a monument to Spain's role as a center of the Christian world. The original ideas were carried out by Juan de Herrera. Fray Antonio de Villacastín was the quantity surveyor.
On 2 November 1984, UNESCO declared The Royal Seat of San Lorenzo of El Escorial a World Heritage Site. It is a popular tourist attraction, often visited by day-trippers from Madrid.
