This cozy strawbale cottage is a charming place to land with all the character of Paonia's Mesa communities. The scenic, yet rustic location is 2 miles from downtown Paonia. With juniper forest, and mountain views, this is a quiet retreat from which to enjoy the outdoors and be close to nature; yet, it is quick and easy to get into town. A great spot for meditators, personal retreat, and those who wish to unplug. SEI students welcome.
The cottage features a full size bed, a spacious shelf for clothing and other storage, and a shoe rack.
The Charming building design includes thick, Earthen finished strawbale walls. The many windows, inset deeply in the walls, provide abundant natural light. It is a magical, rustic space which has been a true Delight for lovers of ecological Living Spaces. This is a great place to experience the joys of living closer to the Earth. Rest easy knowing that much of the water and waste in the house is being returned to the land and that electric energy is produced by the Sun.
The cottage is set up with a burner, simple cooking implements, and an outdoor dishwashing station- good for basics, but please note it is not a full kitchen. There is a small fridge in the house which you may put small items in.
The bathroom, which guests may access in the main house, includes a shower, sink, and a well maintained composting toilet. The cottage is about 100 ft via a mulched path from the main house.
This home features solar electric and a water cistern: please be prepared to conserve water and electric. All water drains to the land, so natural body products are a plus. There is a cat in the main house, and you are welcome to allow her to visit you- or not. Get to know Paonia's 'back to the land' roots.
Please, let the host know if you are not familiar with the composting toilet or solar electric so that I can give you more information!
I am available to check in with you about whatever needs you have around the house or any questions you have about activities in and around Paonia. I do a lot of hiking so I can recommend all kinds of great hikes. As an artist I can tell you lots about the vibrant art scene here.

I am a ceramic artist and make one of a kind functional items as well as "land portraits", wall art derived from plaster molds of the earth (animal tracks and more). I love hiking in the mountains in the summer, and just went on my first kayak trip- it was amazing! I love Indian and Ethiopian food. Right now I'm reading "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver, and "The Art of Happiness", by the Dalai Lama. In life, I look for what brings me joy. Spiritual practice is important.
As a host, I will be 'hands off' for the most part, occasionally checking with you to see if there is something you need. You are always welcome to ask questions.
