There is a woodstove for heating which heats radiators in the bedrooms. Portland Basin, is her home base. Please note that "Hazel"s day job is providing well being trips. If you are staying for more than one night she may be used for trips in the daytime. NB. This listing is for static use only. Trips extra!
"Hazel" is the last Runcorn 'wooden header' narrow boat. Built in (or before) 1913 she carried salt, and later coal, before being converted for residential use in 1951. Restored and fitted out by craftspeople and volunteers between 2011 and 2015 her main job is now to provide well being trips and holidays for people who need their spirits lifting.
All parts of the boat accessible.
Depends on what you want. There will normally be a volunteer around to make sure that the boat's systems are working correctly and to make sure that you remain well supplied with firewood, water and electricity. You can invite them in and make friends or keep yourselves to yourselves. It's up to you.
We normally expect guests to bring their own sleeping bags or duvets. If you can't do this please let us know and we'll supply them but make a small extra charge (this is the cleaning fee, which is removed if you bring your own).
Please bring slippers and take off outdoor shoes before entering bathroom or bedrooms.
No cutting firewood inside the boat (you will be supplied with sufficient stove sized wood anyway)
Absolutely and very firmly NO CANDLES!!!!!!
Listing on behalf of Wooden Canal Boat Society. I am a furry boat gnome who has been beavering away at trying to save some of the old wooden working boats of the canals for the last 40 years. "Hazel"s main job is to provide holidays for people who are dealing with stress, depression and other mental health difficulties. By staying aboard her you will help to fund this work, and you might even improve your own mental health.
